In order to give this piece some authority, I read up on technical uses of FORTRAN, the early computer programming language. Although updated repeatedly since the 1960s, it continues to be in use today -- simply as “Fortran.” Here, the functions would be those which might have captured the imagination of a mysterious, notebook-doodling, 6-year-old genius who is eager to rid the Earth of chalk dust clouds and aerodynamically-unsound scooters.

I wish there was a way to record scents so that when one of my neighbours is cooking something that smells good, I could ask the internet what those spices were.

There's an unrecognisable but delicious smell in the stairwell and it's driving me up the wall!
