Word of God says they met when they were teenagers, and now I am of the opinion that word of god means absolutely nothing and if it's not on the show it's just a head canon, but when I look at these two and just go "They've known each other since they were kids"

The level of intimacy and trust they both show each other throughout the Hawkmoth/Mayura partners in crime era is such a fascinating, because it genuinely makes so much sense for them to know each other for so long, they just. Fit. They have seen each other as different people and watched as the other grow into who they are now.
Also, there is no explanation to whatever dork ass display this was if they had only known each other as adult.
