Sass the Cobra, Kwami of Opportunity

Here's my take on Sass! I wouldn't call it a full redesign, more just a few creative liberties, but I love how he turned out. Sass is the kwami of Opportunity instead of Intuition in my AU, though his powers remain the same. I also made him the Cobra because "snake" is vague, and his weapons are now a pair of bolas because a) long and skinny like snakes, and b) can actually be used in a fight.

Zodiac Heroes Poll: Snake

Another idea I kinda want to play around with and plan for is the chaos of Fu only having the Chinese Zodiac and he releases them all to spite and deal with HM, cause how dare he misuse a Miraculous.

Only there are 12 heroes and a struggle to decide who gets what as possibilities are endless. I have tried and just kept going back and forth and constantly changed my mind.

So for fun, let's do them in polls! I'll be doing three a week, and provide links to other polls as they get released.

Choose very carefully, as each Zodiac will have a variety of potential characters to use it. What character wins in this poll is what they get and that option is removed from future polls.

Snake Miraculous has the power Recoil, playing the lyre, selectively rewind time, be it the actual flow of time (max 9 days, though it's an instant detransformation and Sass is going to be out for a week), rewinding an object or target back, or even be a means of healing, recoiling someone back to their prior state of health.

Sass is defined by his patience and wisdom. He keeps an open mind to possibilities, and can often give vague advise, he would rather see what choices humans make and how they live with the consequences. He's probably the most morally gray kwami, leaning for the greater good, but can also understand less ideal responses.

I came across a really neat post by @sillygoofylittleartist with costume designs for Tiger!Luka and Snake!Juleka, and had a lot of thoughts about that. I was running out of room in the tags, so I’ll put them here.

Juleka would be a really interesting pick for the snake. She’s a very shy and anxious person, and I think that having the ability to reset and try again when she made a mistake would be a relief at first.

Maybe it would build her confidence knowing that she can try again until she gets it right, and no one has to know she messed up. Or maybe it would fill her with doubt, knowing how many tries it took to get it right and seeing the consequences of her mistakes. Especially if her teammates complimented her on how well she was doing, because they wouldn’t know, and she probably wouldn’t tell them much beyond “Well, it took a few resets . . .” Probably one after the other, and initial period of “I can’t be a hero! What am I doing!” followed by a buildup of confidence that slowly turns to self doubt.

I think Sass would be a good partner for her. He’s level headed and wise, and that steady surety would be a good counter to panic spirals. He could help her see that we get the chance to try again and again our whole lives. We’re going to make mistakes, but we also get to learn from them so that we can do better in the future.

Juleka would fidget with her bracelet when she was nervous as a civilian. She would think it was cool that Sass ate whole eggs or whatever and would offer to buy him mice, maybe. He could hide in her hair. Although I doubt she’d be a heavy hitter physically in akuma battles, the attention on her then could be something she’d channel when modeling. If she could tackle a giant robot on live TV dressed as a snake, she could model some outfits.

I might have more thoughts later, but I wanted to get these out. Thanks for reading! 🐍👩‍🎤

Do you think Sass would have looked cool if he had a Naga body type?

Why is Sass named Sass? I mean he isn't sassy at all? He's like one of the more chill kwamis, actually. Is it based on a word from another language? The wiki says its similar to the sound a snake makes, but if that's the inspiration then why not Hiss? That would fit alongside Roaar and Barkk much better and it follows the double letter rule.
