Thoughts on theories that Rey is related not to Luke, but to Obi-Wan?
I think it’s a bit silly, really.
If she has a connection to the legacy characters, the evidence vastly favours the Skywalkers. It’s Anakin’s/Luke’s lightsaber that gives her Force visions and which comes to her. She hears Anakin in Cloud City during the duel with Luke. She has dreams of Luke’s island. The script describes Leia as motherly towards her; she bonds with Leia’s husband, who significantly seems to know more about her than he’s telling, and has some vague connection to Leia’s son.
The only association with Obi-Wan that I can think of are “these are your first steps” and her accent (?). The vast preponderance of evidence leans Skywalker-ward.
Even physically, Rey looks far more like the Skywalker women, particularly Padmé, than Obi-Wan. (Ofc that’s not conclusive, but it does add to the rest.)
If the idea is that it’d be too predictable/unoriginal for her to be a Skywalker, I don’t see how Obi-Wan would be much of an improvement. And in terms of the overarching narrative and the evidence in the film, I see virtually no suggestion of Obi-Wan and a ton re: the Skywalkers.
The only twists I can imagine are 1) she was adopted by Luke and is a Skywalker by choice rather than blood, or 2) actually she is Leia’s daughter. At this point, I think both are very unlikely.
