I've heard about Nintendo apparently keeping games locked behind virtual game cards or something now. So you don't have cartridges or any physical proof the game exists. And I just have to ask: is video gaming going the way of streaming now? Is it becoming all about the digital with no care for the physical? Because if so, I really can't say I like that. No, not at all. I don't like that one at all. It's things like this that are kneeling me confident I'll never want to buy the Nintendo Switch 2.
The Nintendo Switch 2 feels like Apple making an iPhone 10X or whatever. Phones get replaced with nearly identical models every year, it feels like. And if Nintendo intends to turn the Nintendo Switch into their version of the iPhone, that'll be my cue to stop engaging with Nintendo products made for anything newer than the original Switch.
I don't feel unreasonable for this one, especially since physical media just feels like the only proper way to do things. I have a paranoid fear of VR, a fear that I feel movies and tv helped give me. I'm afraid of the digital getting too immersive, to the point where reality and fantasy are blurred. I know we're still not there yet, but it seems like tech moguls want to take us there. And that really, really frustrates me. I don't want us to get to that point. I don't want to deal with that.
I'm open to playing Nintendo Switch games I've missed. I never played Pokemon Scarlet and Violet. I never finished Pokemon Sword and Shield. I never played Fire Emblem Engage. I'm really and willing to try out some of these games now, but I don't think I'm anywhere near ready to try out the Switch 2. Also, I'm still angry that my Fire Emblem Echoes game cartridge for the 3DS apparently no longer works. The whole thing is useless now. I despise Nintendo for that one.
I would play Fire Emblem Echoes or Fire Emblem Awakening online with mods. But I don't like playing games on the PC, and I don't even know how to mod anything! Modding is cool but it's too technical and mathematical for me. I'm much more of an abstract kind of person. I deal in interesting random facts and in many strong personal opinions. I don't deal in the hard technical stuff. So things like mods to allow same sex S supports in Fire Emblem Awakening and Fates are forever denied me. And I'll never have a chance to complete Fire Emblem Echoes. sigh…
PS: My dad also brought up a good point to me. Nintendo is one of the only major companies still doing handheld games, aren't they? Because the PlayStation and Xbox aren't, and then the PC isn't really handheld. So yeah, it might be a bad time to be a handheld game right about now.
