Helmet Farlong and Gann
part of wip AU sketch 'bout meeting with bishop during motb
"Have you ever heard of the Akachi's curse?"
"Some local legend for scaring children?"
"Kinda"
The door to the room opens and Gannayev enters. After a quick glance at the rangers, he goes to the bookcase. Thin fingers flutter almost weightlessly over the spines of the books. Quickly finding the foliant he's looking for, the witcher silently leaves the room, closing the door behind him.
Bishop turns a mocking look at the elf, "So, Captain, found a new boy to woo in the absence of a paladin?"
"Of course," woman chuckled, " he's very gallant about holding my hair back while I throw up my stomach."
Why Gann Is Pan
Alright, I’m finally gonna do it-
So, I recently did a Mask of the Betrayer playthrough with a male character on the Safiya romance and hoooly shiiiit. There are flirt options with Kaelyn?? And Safiya gets jealous?? Honestly this whole playthrough was a whirlwind.
One thing that really jumped out at me was the romance speech before entering The Fugue Plane. For a female character, he will give a romance speech (basically an “I love you, and here’s why”) and for a male character, he will give a “friendship” speech. The difference between the romance speech (or his dialogue before you have a chance to react) and the “friendship” speech is one. line.
That line, you ask?
“I love what you are, who you are.”
Basically, regardless of your character’s gender in-game, he will say that he would willingly die for you and follow you to the ends of the earth, and that it doesn’t matter to him if you are Akachi or the Knight-Captain.
Now, the really interesting part- after he confesses all of this, you only have two dialogue options-
1. Thanks for standing by me.
2. We don’t have time for this.
Seriously? That’s it? Well, if you chose option 1 (and I believe option 2 as well, though it’s been a while since I did an anti-Gann playthrough) he’ll say something along the lines of, “Well, we can talk more about this later.” His tone is uncomfortable, like he’s been misinterpreted. That same line of dialogue is used for a female character who friendzones him or who insults him.
What, you might ask, is my point in all of this?
Nothing, really. It’s just a video game, I just did it for fun. This, of course, is a fantasy game that has no bearing on the real world. Right?
In all honesty, I think Gann is pansexual. Not just because of this cutscene, but because of other lines of his dialogue where he outright says that the “trappings of flesh” mean very little to him in the face of love. And yeah, I’m probably overanalysing this. I am probably wasting my time. But my take on this is that Gann is pansexual and in love with the KC no matter what, but if the KC is male, he is misinterpreted when he tries to confess his love.
