my favorite Garak & Bashir headcanon (pretty close to actual cannon) is Garak giving Bashir book after book of classic romantic cardassian lit, and Bashir totally missing the point and Garak very patiently and eventually with simmering impatience and disbelief trying to get. Bashir. to. get. the. point.
Don't get me wrong I adore Ziyal, but she should not have been romantically involved with Garak. She could have been so much more than just a romantic interest. They could have had an amazing friendship (and pissed off her dad some more) and it would have been nice for Garak to have had another Cardassian to socialize with, but instead the writers just had to fuck it up and sHE DID NOT DESERVE WHAT SHE GOT!!! And neither did Garak.
Instead it would have been interesting to have seen more than just an unspoken hint of attraction between Julian and Garak, even the actors themselves were so into it. They compliment each other so well and their on screen dynamic is out of this world (pun intended!)
They should have been boyfriends and we all know it
Garak: Been flirting with Julian multiple times and he gave me no answer. He must not has any romantic interested to me.
Bashir: Garak play the game again, I can't learn the whole truth and sometimes he scary the shit out of me.
The door of Julian's bedroom opened, and the first thing the doctor got to see was Garak the tailor, sitting cross-legged on the bed, which was layered with exquisite silks -- possibly Tholian.
"These are very nice bedsheets that you have," the Cardassian welcomed him with a smile just as soft and delightful as the fabric.
The doctor returned him a fond, gently amused look.
"Why don't you try them, then?" he suggested and set to tuck his dear friend in bed.
As Garak laid under the very soft blanket, Julian leaned down to grace his lips with a goodnight kiss. They entwined there, as the most tender moment prolonged itself into something deeper, tongues playing sagely still, but with an interest for more. For something more ...ticklish?
Julian's mind flickered in confusion as his lips were being tickled by ...hair? Was it a moustache? Whiskers? Cardassians had no such features, that he knew, and the kiss had turned more vivid too, as a tongue bearing a different kind of alienitude washed over his mouth.
The dream diluted, and nox woke up to he wet attention-seeking of a puppy in need of a piddle.
