Something interesting I've found...

...about the Figarland family. They each have a way of holding their sword.

We have Shanks, who tucks his sword in his sash, Japanese style. He probably got it from his dad Roger who wore his sword like this;

In the One Piece universe, it seems to be the most common way to hold your sword.

This gives him the image of a laid back and unassuming guy compared to the rest of his biological family.

Then we have the sperm donor : Figarland Garling. He has a peculiar way of carrying his sword. He literally holds it in his hand while walking and only puts it down when he sitting.

It's not practical. It paints him as someone always ready to use violence.

Finally, we get Shamrock who use a belt to hold his sword. This kind of belt is called a baldric [X]. Sommers also wears one, is it part of the Holy Knights' uniform for swordsman ? It doesn't seem so.

During the God Valley incident, none of the HK were wearing one, so it may be a recent development. It is surprisingly practical for a CD's outfit.

I wonder if Shamrock ever felt envious growing up when he saw how spoiled all his peers were compared to his own childhood. We already know that holy knights dress and behave differently, so I assume they’re also raised much stricter and with more focus on their future as Imu's servants.

Did Shamrock look outside his window during his private lessons to watch other Celestial children, free to be as greedy and lazy as they want, play with all the toys Garling would never allow him to have?

Did he ever question what the purpose of being a God was if he never got to make his own choices in life or had Garling taught him to be proud of how different the life of a knight was?

Garling, knowing that Shamrock was the only treasure he won on God Valley, must have raised his son like a blade, always sharpened for the next battle.

Figarland Shamrock:

Swedish/Sámi

Wears his hair in a similar fashion to his mother, but does so without realising

Doesn't resent his father, but does question some things about his home and origins

Still baffled as to why Shanks left Mary Geoise all those years ago, but doesn't know the full extent of his betrayal (ie freeing Fisher Tiger + giving him full access to the armoury)

Has not been engaged to anyone as a result of work and because he is very particular about who he wants to marry (something common among the Figarland family, who would take one partner at most)

His favourite food is lobster

Obtained his Devil Fruit during a mission and fed it to his sword to avoid the side-effects

His sword Cerberus was a gift from his father on his 18th birthday

Manmayer Gunko/Shuri:

Austrian

Started taking piano and violin lessons in Mary Geoise

Was primarily tutored by Groh before becoming a Devoted Blade

Is quite fond of Shamrock and Garling because they respect her the most out of all the Holy Knights (is not vocal about it, especially regarding her fondness for the former Supreme Commander)

Likes classical and rock music the most (thanks to Brook)

Inherited her Devil Fruit from Groh upon his death

Finds Sommers to be a bit much

Likes hanging out with Killingham when off-duty

Periodically has night terrors, which often show the deaths of her parents and her losing Brook, but she never talks about them

Shepherd Sommers:

German

The biggest nepo baby of all the Holy Knights thanks to Ju Peter

Started his rivalry with Garling during their Devoted Blade days, with his envy of the other only skyrocketing when he was promoted to Supreme Commander instead of Sommers

Middle child of three

Is an ugly crier

Will find any excuse to make fun of Garling

Speaks English and German

Doesn't mind Shamrock and the rest of the Knights

Loves to gossip with Maffey

Wanders around his home in just his underwear

Gets sunburned very easily (and very badly)

Also a bit of a nepo baby, but not as bad as Sommers

Was Initially very squeamish regarding blood

Only child

Was bullied for his looks (particularly his teeth), often being compared to the Fish-Men that were kept as slaves, so is quite insecure

A wild child; would bite people he didn't like

Loves fish and sweets, but hates vegetables

Can play piano

Satchels Maffey:

German/English

Her status is currently unknown as after entering a meeting with Garling (not long after the God Valley Incident), she was never seen or heard from again

Eldest of two

Pokes fun at Garling for his height compared to her and some of the other Holy Knights

Likes collecting jewellery

Loves caviar and figs

Hates potatoes and dairy products

Figarland Garling:

Swedish

Became Supreme Commander after killing the previous one

Cares very little for the rivalry he has with Sommers

Only child, and was the sole remaining member of the Figarland family before the birth of Shanks and Shamrock

Almost didn't let Killingham join the Holy Knights because he didn't trust his abilities, but had to give in after receiving several complaints from the family

Has no interest in marriage, partly because he cannot stand most people

Interestingly, he has a small soft spot for Gunko (thinks she's quite sensible)

Unlike most, whose covenant mark is present on the arm, his mark is on his back

Likes stir-fried vegetables, fish and chicken

Hates oysters and caviar
