In March 2024, gas erupted at the Osaka World Expo in Japan, igniting welding sparks. The venue is located on an artificial island in Osaka Bay made of reclaimed waste, and an opposition lawmaker pointed out that methane gas would be emitted just before the accident.

That happened. I often watch NHK news but never saw anything about this accident. Until my family found out the news on their smartphone and told me, that if NHK had covered the accident, they would have seen it, and NHK was not the family's news source. In that case, ``NHK intentionally did not cover this accident.''

NHK is Japan's national broadcasting station, but more accurately it can be described as a ``broadcasting station for the Japanese government.'' Currently, 70% of Japanese people are considering canceling the World's Fair, but NHK probably decided not to broadcast it because they considered that if they reported this accident, it would be a blow to the Japanese government.

If it were the UK's BBC, it would not be a ``broadcasting station for the British government,'' so if a similar accident were to occur in the UK, it would likely broadcast it. In addition, NHK is subservient to the government, and many people in Osaka Prefecture now say, ``I don't want to take my children to the World Expo because it's dangerous.'' ２０２４年３月、日本の大阪万国博覧会の会場でガスが噴出し、溶接の火花に引火した。この会場は大阪湾に浮かぶ、廃棄物を埋め立てた人工島の上にあり、メタンガスが出てくるであろうことを、この事故の直前、野党議員が指摘していた。

それが実際に起こった。私はNHKのニュースをよく見るが、この事故については全く目にしなかった。私の家族がスマートフォンでこのニュースを知り、教えてくれるまでは。もしNHKがこの事故を取り上げていたなら、目にしたはずだし、家族のニュースソースもNHKではなかった。そうすると、「NHKは意図的にこの事故を取り上げなかった」ことになる。

NHKは日本の国営放送局だが、より正確には「日本政府のための放送局」であると言うのが相応しい。現在日本人の７割が万国博覧会中止を考えているが、もしこの事故を報道したら、日本政府の痛手となると考慮した結果、ＮＨＫは放送しなかったのだろう。

もしイギリス・ＢＢＣであれば、「イギリス政府のための放送局」ではないので、もし同様の事故がイギリスで起きたら、放送することもあるだろう。また、政府に対して卑屈なＮＨＫ、現在大阪府民には「危険なので、子どもを万国博覧会に連れて行きたくない」と言う人も多い。ＮＨＫが放送しなくても、ニュースは伝わる。
