The 1988 Volga GAZ 24-10 Is a Hilariously Bad Soviet Russian Car

The Volga GAZ 24-10 is a Soviet car -- and a poorly built, laughably outdated one. Today I'm reviewing the GAZ 24-10, and I'm going to show you all the quirks and features of a Soviet car that lagged far behind what we had in North America. I'm also going to drive the Volga and show you what it's like on the road.

P.S. When Soviet Union and communism collapsed, Latvia restored its independence. Indigenous Latvians tried to get rid from Russian made cars as fast as possible. GAZ-24-10 was supposed to be luxurious for Soviet “elite”: KGB officers, communist officials and “artists” loyal to regime. Imagine, how crappy were Soviet designed cars for ordinary folks: ZAZ968M, Moskvitch 412 and etc. The mass production, more or less normal car for early 1970s,  VAZ 2101 and other Lada “family” vehicles (copy/ paste vehicle from Fiat) was hopelessly obsolete  by late 1980s, too. Studies of Soviet automotive technology history are giving good answers why Russian communist system collapsed...

          I was quite happy to replace Russian made car, inherited from parents, with my first German made 1982 Audi 80 Quatro....It was light years ahead of Russian 1988 GAZ 24-10...

In Latvia, every true car entuziast was happy to see collapse of communism....!!! Ronald Reagan was a Great statesman! His hard line position against  ("Evil Empire" speech)  helped a lot to destroy the Soviet menace....

In the photo, most likely, the mother and son: The mother puts the most valuable thing – a bag with two or three dozen valuable and scarce eggs, and the guy carries several bottles of milk in a string bag, a couple of cans of canned food, two loaves of sour bread “brick”, as well as a can probably with liquid sour cream. In the background the Soviet made car - GAZ-24 Volga. They don’t look like happy people living “well” in the communist/socialist USSR!

P.S. Under Soviet/Russian occupation regime basic food (meat, butter, vegetables, fruits, even simple white bread became a deficit) supplies were short of real demand in Latvia, too. Ordinary working people wasted huge amount of time waiting in long lines at almost empty shelves in overcrowded Soviet shops in Riga! People were often angry and quarreled about the places in the line….! Quite often two- three hours of waiting, then announcement that no more chickens today….!   They worked hard whole day; they received a tiny salary, some small number of rubles and couldn’t spend them normally to feed their families.   Socialism sucks….

       “Millennial socialists”, and Westerners in general, are really very funny and naïve people…. when they speak about socialism, communism, former Soviet Union or “modern” Russia…. Mostly, you don’t know absolutely nothing about socialism…. !

في 15 يوليو 1970 ، بدأ الإنتاج للسيارة السوفيتية GAZ-24 Volga ، وهي أضخم طراز لسيارات الركاب في مصنع غوركي للسيارات.

وذلك قبل أن يتوقف الإنتاج عام 1992 ، أنتج المصنع 1.4 مليون سيارة من هذا الطراز من خط التجميع.
