URL Change, Maybe?

Thinking of changing my URL. Honestly, I haven’t done a whole of artistic “design” since starting my blog, but I have started writing again.

Although I really like “GeekChic” (that specific URL is taken) but I’m not emotionally attached to it. I picked “by design” on a whim when it seemed like every other name was taken. Now that I’ve been here for awhile I realize that my blog is dedicated almost exclusively to cartoons. Specifically cartoons of the turtle ninja teenager variety.

So, what do you guys think? Who AM I? It’s like deciding what I want to be when I grow up! ;) Recommendations are very welcome. <3

@doomuntold and @geekchicbydesign -- it’s Lancôme’s Rouge in Love in “Violette Coquette”. I first got this shade as a gift and it is fantastic. Creamy to apply, great pigmentation with just one coat (though I recommend a lipliner, because it does feather a little bit), and it stays vibrant for a good amount of time. 

In real life, the color is much more purple -- almost a neon purple, in certain lights! But I can get away with wearing it to work, so one more for the plus column!

Wake-up and Sleep Times: Asleep sometime between 9:30-10:30, awake usually around 3-4 where I sit around and wait for my 5:40am alarm (it’s better than it used to be. I used to wake up around 2:15, and then 3:30, and then 4 every night)

Lemonade or Iced Tea: Lemonade - most places only have regular tea and I can’t have caffeine :(

Coke or Pepsi: Pepsi back in the day (Dr. Pepper forever though. I haven’t had any is nearly three years because, yeah, I can’t have caffeine. Sigh.) I basically gave up all soda, though I sometimes have a ginger ale or a Sprite

Day or Night: Coin toss. I’m not a morning person, but I’m not a night owl either. I think maybe morning, early, like maybe 4am on a weekend when everyone is still asleep and I’m awake and cozy and alone with my thoughts

Text or Call: Text. I haaaaaaate talking on the phone

Make up or Natural: Natural because I’m too lazy to do it for work, and because it’s not even worth it for work since I’m in old tees and ripped jeans and don’t have anyone to impress. Weekends and going out or errands, I will though.

Met a celebrity: I did walk past a very pregnant Gywneth Paltrow at the Bellagio hotel in Vegas once

Smile or Eyes: I want to say eyes, but probably the smile first (then the eyes)

Light or Dark Hair: I’ve always tended to be attracted to dark haired men.

Shorter or Taller: I’m okay being 5'2" actually, and I sorta love height differences, so taller

Intelligence or Attraction: I tend to fall into the middle ground here. I can’t tolerate stupid people. ^^;; I’m not particularly brainy, but I’ve dealt with some obvious dumbass dudebros in my life. But there has to be at least a spark of some attraction, even if no one else sees it but me

Chapstick or Lipstick: Chapstick (mint!)

City or Country: Probably city, if only because I don’t drive and it’s easier to get around =p

You’re the patient that always has a kind word for everyone, and I’m the receptionist at the dental office who has fallen desperately in love with your smile. One night my friends drag me to a night club and who do I run into, but you - I blurt out that you have really nice teeth and want to die, but you just flash *that smile* and ask me to dance (I work in the dental field, I can’t even help myself. The other one that kept floating in my head is about trading Pokemon. I’m so sorry guys, this is my brain)

You know, I tend to pair fairly popular ships - but since it’s my current otp, you don’t see a lot of dwarf warden/Alistair or Zevran really. Seriously, the list is tiny on Ao3. C'mon guys, dwarf girls (or boys too, in the case of Zevran) are the best!!

Hi m'dear! I think you mentioned Morning pages awhile ago. I found a used Artist's Way recently (yay!) and I wonder, do you feel the Morning Pages help to clear out any negative thoughts or do the things you write about stay w/you during the day?

Oh man, I love The Artist’s Way, even if it recently kicked my rear and I’m still sore about it, and the morning pages are my favorite part of the whole program. 

Everyone will get something different out of the morning pages -- some people may hate them, some people may be as in love with them as I am, some people might just be bored. For me, I think their immediate benefits vary, day by day. Some days, I write three pages of how much I don’t want to go to work, some days are to-do lists and planning, some days are experiments with story bits, some days are straight journal entries. 

If I’ve written about something huge, like my health issues, or mental health worries, then the negative thoughts don’t get cleared out. Those problems are too big to be completely canceled about by three pages of handwriting, but they’re transformed a bit, something I can see now that I’ve been doing morning pages for so long. They’re more manageable, because I can look back and say “hey, look at that stuff that was stressing me out three months ago -- it’s still here, and I’m still stressed, but I’m still here too”. 

The morning pages give me excellent perspective. It’d be ideal if I could slough of all my worries and leave them on the page; instead, what happens is that I can see my progress, and my tenacity, because no matter now much pain I’m in or how much stress I’m dealing with, I still get up every morning, and I write three pages of whatever’s on my mind. 

Even if TAW doesn’t work for you as a whole, I really recommend trying to make the morning pages and the artist’s date a part of your routine. Sometimes I’m reluctant to make the time to do either, but I’ve never regretted having done them.

geekchicbydesign answered: Hmm… other humans may. I’m guessing since the turtles more or less think of him as “April’s Dad” it just seems appropriate. Donnie even calls him “Kirby” at one point, suggesting a closer bond. *future daddy-in-law* ;)

Another very good and valid point. Leo calls him Kirby also.

What made you a fan of Usagi? 2003? 1987? Stan Sakai comic?

I first encountered the bushido bunbun through TMNT 2003 back when it originally aired, and then I went looking for the comics! 

The look on my college roommate’s face when I hauled in a few dozen comic books about a rabbit samurai was priceless. She handled my TMNT and Elfquest obsessions with good grace, but the comics crossed the line for her. Sorry, Jaylyn!

I didn’t start shipping Leo and Usagi till I rewatched TMNT 2003, and then BOY HOWDY did I start shipping them.

I'm going to behave myself and not ask you about smut. Instead... do you think GAVG Casey ever had any hangups about getting involved with a mutant? Do you think seeing Casey and Raph together helped April decide that she and Donnie really could have a future? She fought those feelings for a while, even after she and Casey broke up (and she "spied" D in his lab). Did seeing Donnie and Jenny early on play a part in her realization that her friend could be more? I'll ask non-ship questions too ;)

GaVG Casey (and to an extent, all Caseys) just sort of...charged in. He had feelings for Raph for a while before anything happened, but he obviously didn’t agonize over it the way Donnie agonized over his feelings for April. Raph was just...the coolest dude Casey knew. Always had been, always would be (even if Casey doesn’t tell Raph that very often). And Casey thinks mutants are awesome, even if they’re about to kill him. So dating one? Double awesome! Finally, someone worthy of the Mystical Badass Casey Jones! 

April didn’t so much fight her feelings for Donnie as much as she had no idea she was in love with Donnie. I think they just kept getting closer over the years, as friends and almost-lovers, and there were moments when April thought wait a minute -- but then Donnie would clear his throat or make a pun or somehow deflect, because he didn’t want to make April uncomfortable. So she missed out on a lot of chances, because she didn’t really analyze how she felt. Not to mention that Donnie got really good at locking down his romantic feelings for April, so she never felt anything after they had The Talk in Prelude: Holly, Yarrow.

I don’t think Jenny’s relationship with Donnie sparked any fireworks for April; she liked Jenny (any jealousy she felt was fleeting), and she was happy for Donnie, but at that point she was preoccupied by her relationship with Casey (which was starting to self-destruct)

There was a moment when both April and Donnie came really close to saying something, though. After Leo was rescued, when the turtles were nineteen, April and Donnie talked in the lab and hugged each other -- just supporting each other as best friends, but the hug went on a little longer than normal, and neither of them wanted to let go, and April thought, Donnie -- 

-- but everything was so raw, and Donnie was so exhausted, that April didn’t push the issue. And it took them almost seven years to get back to that point. 

Donnie doesn’t regret a moment of it. Of course he wishes he could have had April sooner, but he looks at all those years of being best friends as the best possible foundation for their relationship. They got to support each other through all the most important events in their lives, and he treasures that. 

(If he knew about her accidentally-turned-purposefully spying on his “research time”, he would have a lot to say about her not jumping in to assist)
