GeekOut Cafe

If anyone is in the Lakewood/Denver (CO) area or is willing to make the commute I highly recommend checking out GeekOut Cafe (Not an actual cafe) they’re a board game shop and event space. They allow anyone and everyone to play board games, especially if you’ve never played it before, they also host D&D campaigns on Friday’s (6 PM - 9 PM though it has been known to run until 10 PM before) and has added Saturdays (2 PM - 5 PM) (all skill levels are welcome), they also just added an Animal Crossing night! Everyone there is extremely kind the place is friendly to people of all ages so if you can’t leave your children alone or can’t find a babysitter you can bring them with you! Go have a great time or at least check it out and see if you like it :)

Elizabeth Banks, from the Charlie's Angels reboot, talks about female lead comic book movies

Elizabeth Banks, who recently starred in the reboot bomb Charlie's Angels, states female lead comic book movies like Wonder Woman and Captain Marvel are only popular because comic books are a "male genre." She has since then received some backlash on her statement

Her quotes:

“They’ll go and see a comic book movie with Wonder Woman and Captain Marvel because that’s a male genre. So even though those are movies about women, they put them in the context of feeding the larger comic book world, so it’s all about, yes, you’re watching a Wonder Woman movie but we’re setting up three other characters or we’re setting up ‘Justice League.’”

“Look, people have to buy tickets to this movie, too. This movie has to make money, if this movie doesn’t make money it reinforces a stereotype in Hollywood that men don’t go see women do action movies.”

“By the way, I’m happy for those characters to have box office success, but we need more women’s voices supported with money because that’s the power. The power is in the money.”

Money does not always equal power. As a male, I've seen plenty of non-comic book female lead movies such as Atomic Blonde, Annihilation, Alien, Ghostbusters, etc. I did have plans to see this movie since Charlie's Angels is a favorite of my mom's, but the arrogance of the star is a bit wavering. I'll watch it but we need to stop pretending all men don't watch or listen to anything female lead. It's 2019. Congrats on the 9 million domestic opening weekend by the way.
