The word crystal is often used to describe gemstones and jewels, but it has a more specific meaning. Poetically speaking, a crystal is a clear mineral or glass made of sharp, straight shapes. I have a theory that I now head cannon about the names for some of the gems. Since the diamonds hated organic life (until era 3) they wouldn't have named their gems after said organics.
So the fact that Rose Quartz was named as such was because Pink Diamond saw a rose plant and took the name. Yes I know they were probably around before her colony but semantics.
With that in mind, maybe gems like bumble bee jasper, zebra jasper, and other gems with animal or state names got them after Pink's colony, before that they could have had simpler names like black striped jasper for zebra jasper and so on.
Man ppl are weak, they'll name their kids after basic gems like "ruby", "pearl" or "emerald" but what about the kickass names they could be giving their kids???
