so. I like names. and I like lists. and I like graveyards. naturally, I love making lists of names from different time periods that I find in them.
so! here's a list of the names I most commonly find for people born between 1890-1910. if you have a character who's coming of age in the roaring twenties, maybe this list will be helpful.
note that these are from graveyards with primarily white and black u.s. residents, and some names may have been nicknames in life. I'll rb with the masculine list. **EDIT: link***

as someone who's had a lot of deaths in the family recently, walking through graveyards and studying their history is soothing. I know it's odd, but I find a lot of peace in it. graveyards are also safe havens for a lot of wildlife, so if you're into birdwatching, definitely drop by a few.
The Sámi (also Sami or Saami) are the indigenous people of the Sámpi region, now modern-day Norway, Sweden, Finland and the Kola Peninsula of Russia.
The Sámi people are most known as semi-nomadic reindeer herders, with around 2,800 Sámi people working as full-time herders in Norway. Reindeer herding is legally reserved only for Sámi people in some parts of Nordic countries.
The Sámi people speak the Sámi languages, which belong to the Uralic language group. There are ten or more Sámi languages, with spellings of the grouping varying as Sámi, Sami, Saami, Saame, Sámic, Samic and Saamic. The most widely spoken of these languages is Northern Sámi with 26,000 speakers. Others include Akkala (dead), Inari (400), Kemi (dead), Kainuu (dead), Skolt (320), Penninsular (600), Ter (2), Lule (1,000 to 2,000), Pite (20), Southern (600), Ume (20) and Gälve (dead).
Plenty of Sámi names are Finnish or Scandinavian names adapted into the Sámi language. Some aren't Sámi at all! A lot of this has to do with forced conversions in Norway, where families were not allowed to baptize children with a Sámi name. And baptism was required because conversion to Christianity was required.
In Sámi tradition, someone's name could include generations of family names. It wasn't strictly patronymic, and people would usually use whichever parent was most know to people.
Here's an example: Say someone introduces themself as Čuvje Aagni Heike. Čuvje is her grandmother, Aagni is her mother, and she is Heike.
Another way to identify yourself in Sámi culture would be with a descriptor. This isn't a Sámi specific thing. It's used in plenty of cultures and stories -- think Ser Duncan the Tall in A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms. He's Duncan, and he's tall.
If someone has a common name, such as Lásse, they may use a descriptor to be more specific. Say Lásse is a writer. He could identify himself as Čálli-Lásse (literally writer-Lásse). Place names can also be used as a descriptor. Inari-Laara could be used to describe Laara who lives in Inari, Finland.
Additionally, and something that used most often in the modern era, someone could use a first name and a surname, such as Duiri Ravna.
Once again to clarify: I am not Sámi. There may be cultural nuances that I miss, or information I get wrong. Do not use me as a source. This is just to give people character name ideas!
I highly recommend you refer to Sámi sources for better, more in-depth information. This is simply for names. Don't take anything I say as gospel. I'll link some resources below for those curious. Additionally, if you know any resources that you think I should add, let me know.
If you're creating a Sámi character and you're not Sámi, please do your research into them and their culture and consider why you are making a Sámi OC.
Somás beaivi!

I have dedicated my downtime at work these past couple weeks to compile a list of name ideas for characters from Panem. I would never accuse this document of being comprehensive or even comprehensible-- nor am I even nearly done with it-- but I thought I'd throw it out as a resource/jumping off point for others.
Currently, I am working on being less precious about the names I'm adding, which means I'm going to go back through every extant (and semi-extant) Roman play and rake up every name they've got for Capitol/Capitol-loyalist district-born characters' names. That list is already pretty extensive. I am not going to add every single Greek name I stumble across because not all of them ring particularly Suzanne Collinsian.
I am also working my way through every gemstone and mineral that sounds reasonably 'namey,' so that's on the District 1 sheet for now even though plenty of them need to be moved to other districts.
Districts 8-12 are, admittedly, sparse. The goal is to have at least two dozen names, both masculine and feminine, per district.
The Covey section is very much so incomplete. I've not finished combing through songs and I haven't even touched poetry yet.
what would clint change her name to, because now im thinking about it. clem? clementine? clarity? lin? lina? linda? claudia? i think i like clem/clementine.
i saw the name clintona i think thats somehow worse
notes: my friend requested names for two different headmates. One for the Ruler of the Ephemeral Flow costume, with themes of futility and emptiness, and for the Time Rift Villain costume, with upbeat evil classic disney villain vibes and purple. Both also wanted themes of time and feminine to neutral leaning names.

The characters in my Ricky Raptor projects have a wide variety of names, originating from an assortment of different cultures. However, most of the main characters (Ricky, Jenny, Chase, Amy, and Hikari) have common English names. However, whenever I imagine Ricky Raptor-related stuff getting dubbed or translated to different languages, I imagine three of those characters having different names.
All other characters in the series? Their names stay the same, but Jenny, Chase and Amy get new names in different language. Same goes with Reyna Raptor's teammates (Toby, Jake and Vicky). They also get different names in different dubs and translations. Here is what I've thought up so far:

There are a few other exceptions, like Ricky and Jessica's mom, Love. Her name in other languages would whatever that language's word for 'love' is. Then you have Princess Kara Kira, whose full name would technically be the same, but which part is the family name and which is the given name would be different between certain languages.
If you have any suggestions, I'm happy to see them! ^_^
