Everyone thinks Matilda and Tyler are in a relationship, The lockwoods do NOT like this. Though, because she's popular/good at school they mostly leave it be, especially since Tyler insists they just friends. (this will change)
Her and Vicki still have a close relationship, Matt is extra mad about Vicki sleeping with Tyler because I think Vicki would know Matts had a low level(at least what she'll admit to her) crush on him.
Matilda worrying about liking Tyler because she doesn't want to be her mom(chasing after rich guys)
People trying to be more protective of her but her also taking to the hunting/fighting things really well and quickly, something her and Jeremy bond over, they start training/practicing together when it all starts.

The only thing with that is being a girl would horribly endanger a lot of our more vulnerable characters, who might not make it to the plot to fuck up everyone's lives.

I also don't think WRH would have left Qinghe Nie alone at all if NMJ had been a girl-like, I feel like he would have invaded right away and forced a marriage to one of his gross sons, or even himself, because WRH is fucked up in the head.

At it’s core? Probably not. Being male or female wouldn’t change their dynamic or personalities too much. They are both possessive, powerful little shits no matter what equipment they’re packing. Female!Hadrian and Raina would probably still be in their weird “I kinda wanna make out with you, but probably shouldn’t” bubble.
The only main different would be if it was Female!Voldemort and Male!Hadrian. The intensity between Lily and her would be turned up to 20. And things might be more uncomfortable due to Hadrian’s unhealthy relationship with Lily transferring over to a weird half-romantic, half-familial connection with Female!Voldemort. I wouldn’t write it like that, but I know people would still draw those connections.
Genderswaps are inherently transphobic and heres why
Whenever you see someone draw a genderswapped character, the first things they tend to do are make the characters that are masculine or confirmed men slimmer with breasts and longer hair, eyelashes, etc. For the characters that are originally more feminine or confirmed women, they look wider, bulkier, broader shoulders... Which is ridiculous because not everyone has the same body type. Some men are skinnier or curvy, some women are wider and muscular. But of course the females have to be prettier and the men have to be tough-looking right?
Making a genderswap also implies the characters are cis, which is a dangerous assumption. It could very well be revealed they’re trans later on, and guess what? You just drew a very shitty thing! Congrats!
People love making genderswaps, drawing the designs, praising the people who make them. Those same people then dismiss others who make trans headcanons instead. They ignore the trans people who are uncomfortable with genderswaps because more often than not it suggests that you have to have a specific body type in order to be a certain gender. Please stop making genderswaps. At the very least be mindful of who you expose that to. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve seen a genderswap and felt twists in my gut.
Also if you’re cis don’t try to argue with this or else you get an instant block, even if it’s just in the tags. Cis people can reblog it as long as you don’t add some goofy shit.

Well, exploring gender dynamics in Yu-Gi-Oh is something that does cross my mind once in a while. The male/female character balance is, well, not balanced or at the very least does not feel balanced. I think some part of my innocent, season one has just started and we know nothing about anything brain would have liked 3 boys and 3 girls because 5 boys and 1 girl is heinously unbalanced.
I sometimes think about how different a character like Spectre would have been received had he been a female character. His devotion to Revolver would most certainly be read as romantic by pretty much everyone and I would even posit that the dub would have left the Mother Tree stuff intact as well. For example.
