I love that Andor established that Cassian has a habit of disobeying Draven's orders, mostly because he cares about people. He cares about the cause, yes, but to him, the cause IS people. It adds so much context to why he chooses not to kill Galen once he's met and started to connect with Jyn. As much as he respects Luthen's sacrifices, he made a choice to be a different kind of rebel who's sensitive to people when it's necessary. In doing so he ends up being more of an asset to the Rebellion than a liability because it's his decision not to pull the trigger that gives Jyn reason to trust him and by extension the Rebel cause itself. If he'd gone through with the assassination, I don't know if she would've wanted to join forces with them and give them the final push necessary to steal the Death Star plans from Scarif.

Also it's important to note that his decision also proves to Jyn that not all rebels are cut from the same cloth as Saw. Imo she gets an unfair rap for not wanting to get involved initially because it's clear she was traumatized not only by what happened to her family, but also by how Saw chose to raise her. There's a reason she cut ties with him and we know enough about the character by now to know she likely had very good reason to, despite his good intentions. She doesn't trust the rebels on Yavin because to her, all of them are the same. That is, until Cassian shows Galen compassion. It's a pivotal moment that convinces her that maybe not all the rebels have lost their humanity in the process of fighting for their cause, and that they're fighting for the people - people like her parents - instead of getting caught up in a sense of fanaticism (that again, likely traumatized her while she was growing up with Saw).

EDIT: Also everything Cassian went through in the show adds way more context to why he lets Jyn keep her blaster when she says "trust goes both ways." He knows how necessary it is for the rebels to trust each other, otherwise they won't win, and none of the sacrifices he or anyone else made up until this point will matter. It's such a pity their relationship never gets the chance to develop beyond the Scarif mission because they meet each other where they need to be met and also challenge each other where they need to be challenged

I haven't fully rewatched Andor season 2 quite yet - I'm getting to it right after Rebels - but rewatching "Secret Cargo" makes me more convinced than ever that Mon's speech to the Senate in Andor was NOT a retcon of her Rebels speech, but rather a separate speech altogether.

For one thing, remember that at this point, most of the rebel cells are loosely cooperating but aren't yet united. There is no Rebel Alliance yet. The Ghost crew with Phoenix Squadron are operating from Chopper Base under Commander Sato's leadership, while Cassian and Vel and others are established on Yavin already, which is where Senator Mothma is heading:

Erskin: "There's a ship waiting. They want her to make a speech. They want her coming in with a Yavin escort."

Lest we think the "speech" Erskin is referring to is the one Mon makes to call the different rebel cells together, Kleya immediately follows up with this:

"They wanna rewrite the story."

And later, Draven clarifies further:

"Gold Squadron will deliver the Senator to Yavin."

When we see Gold Squadron and Mon in "Secret Cargo," they aren't delivering Mon to Yavin. Instead, she is heading for a rendezvous point (Dantooine) to invite other rebel cells to unite to form the Alliance.

Draven goes on to say:

"She's making a speech, we need it broadcast as far as possible."

Remember, the Empire went to extreme lengths to block Mon's speech from being transmitted. Brave people did their best to counter the Empire's efforts so at least part of the speech was transmitted, but it was eventually shut down. This would explain Kleya's comment that the rebels "want to rewrite the story" - they want to get Mon's words out there, they want her to successfully reach the people at large.

And Mon's words DO reach the people - but it's not the speech she made in the Senate. What we hear in "Secret Cargo" is a soundbite that is clearly a different speech - and, key point here, we hear this portion of the speech on the Imperial holonet as part of an announcement being made by the Empire as it denounces Mon. The Empire may be calling Mon a traitor right before they broadcast part of her speech, but they are still broadcasting it.

Additionally - well, minor detail, but I don't think it's a coincidence that Mon is wearing her blue Senatorial robes during the Senate speech in Andor, and then is depicted wearing her white outfit in the broadcast we see in Rebels.

All these details, taken together, lead me to believe that Kleya and Draven were referring to Mon making a separate second speech denouncing Palpatine, one that was written for and delivered to a wider audience than just the Senate, before the rebels on Yavin decide to have Mon be present at the meeting to pull the rebel cells together.

Yavin 4 was as humid and sticky as any hellhole you'd seen, and you'd seen a lot. And that wasn't even including the man-eaters that lurked in the jungle outside the plasma shield perimeter around the Rebel base. Still, it wasn't all bad. There were definite attractions, the principal of which trudged into your hut and kicked off his boots as you checked your gear bag for the third time.

Blasters: check. Thermal detonators: check. Vibroblade: check. Spare blaster charges: check. Four separate falsified chain codes: check, check, check, check. Snacks, double check. Very important. Mission critical, in fact.

"Just anxious."

"It's only ten days. You've been on missions far longer and more dangerous," he pointed out. "You're as tough as anyone here, and smarter than them all. You can take care of yourself."

"Obviously," you replied irritably. "I'm not worried about the mission. Like I said, it's cake."

"What, then?"

Your hand slid higher, tracing your thumb over the freshly healed scar on his ribs. You knew exactly where it was; gods knew you'd spent enough time looking at it.

"Last time I left, you got stabbed," you said bluntly.

"A flesh wound."

You tipped your head back to glower at him. "You'd say that if you lost an arm."

A wry chuckle softened his features and relaxed the permanent crease between his brows for a moment. "Shall I promise to only get stabbed when you're with me from now on?"

"I would prefer you to give up the habit entirely."

"Baby steps." He leaned in to close his teeth gently at the corner of your jaw.

He dragged his nose along the line of your jawbone until he reached the corner of your lips, and you heard the quiet click of your belt buckle without ever noticing his hands moving. 

"Presumptuous," you whispered, though your credibility was rather undermined by the way you nuzzled softly against his cheek and then nipped at his bottom lip.

"You haven't shot me yet, so I'm assuming you're not averse," he replied.

"The bar is high, isn't it?"

His quiet laugh puffed against your skin. "I would very much like to kiss you."

Your gaze dropped to his mouth. "Only kiss?"

"Permission granted, General. For kisses and possibly more."
