I’m not sure where this ranks in popularity of opinion but: I don’t want characters to die to further impress upon the audience that death is sudden, tragic, and jarring. We know this. I didn’t need Fred Weasley to die to know that death doesn’t take feelings and justice into consideration. Many of us didn’t need instances of our hearts being ripped out to know the impulsivity of existence and all that comes with it, especially the negative.

We are now in an era where we’re, as a collective, so depressed that the confirmation of aliens existing has us shrugging and asking if they’ll beam down to help us pay our bills or give us healthcare.

So, no. I don’t want to read a book or watch a show because it’s true to how life is. We all know how life is. Give us impossible odds. Give us hope. Give us a damn break.

listen not saying there aren’t thing to be critical of, there are and I am critical of those things, but when someone’s criticism of something is along the lines of “I hate that the main characters who are the focus of the book are the focus of the show” “I hate that the central relationship that drives the book and is at the heart of it’s story/themes gets by far the most screen time in the show” “I hate that the subject matter the book is centered around takes up a lot of focus in the show and I’ve decided that even though I could tolerate reading about it watching it play out on screen feels morally wrong to me” I just can’t respect you or maintain a lot of empathy quite frankly 😭

genuinely think the worst possible thing that can happen to a character is when they’re both treated badly/questionably by the narrative of the book/show/media(s) they’re in, and then their stans take issue with their treatment for reasons that are incredibly wrong and very very stupid rather than the reasons that actually make sense and are valid! Like that’s amazing and not in a good way
