I was tagged by @tinydooms to "list five topics you can talk on for an hour without preparing any material, then tag five people".

In no particular order:

Golden Age Hollywood stars: notably Tallulah Bankhead, my number one scandalous bisexual and all her naughty misadventures.

Knitting: let's get boggled down in techniques and natural fibers.

Growing your own food, especially in urban gardering: I'll tell you all about the why's, how to's and best tricks, before going into prep and conservation.

Queer theoretical perspectives on the Bible: moving beyond Juda and Tamar, and Leviticus 18:22, into the love story of Ruth and Naomi

Tarzan (obviously): Shall we do a side by side comparison of the first 20 novels, or go in depth about Tarzan alive, the definite biography of Lord Greystoke? Bonus topic: The adorable idiots the Tenningtons.

There's this monthly nerd quiz in an Irish pub at my old hometown that is super hard. Like, you need to build a team of multi-experts on books, TV, comics, games, scifi, fantasy, history, old, new... I don't know how the quiz guy does it but it's SO fucking varied, every time, and so fun.

So yeah, me and husband don't really have an IRL friend circle so we usually just participated as a duo and that showed. We weren't bad, mind you! For a 2 person team participating in a generic ALL-NERD quiz, we did pretty well, meaning we were usually at the mid-range on results. But never near the top and we never even got full marks on any category of the quiz, which is always divided to 4 random sub-specialties. These were usually things like current events, old scifi, award season, spacecrafts, horses on fantasy, or any random stuff like that, that required members of the team to have very specific knowledge of a niche interest.

Except ONCE.

We got full points on one category once. And it was not on comics. It was not on video games. It was not on any decade or topic.

No, the theme was Sexy Times.

So the only time me and husband-team got full points on any category of the general nerd quiz was when they were asking about shit like questionable canon content, slash, hentai, nerdy porn parodies etc. Did not miss a single question.

And the host did not miss the opportunity to call us out, along with about 2 other teams who did the same :P

So yeah, my nerd specialty is being a pervert, what is yours?

I found your Rose fic recs, nosed around, & said "hmm, cool person! *follow*" Random fact... hmm... I live in NYC now, but I'm from Michigan and have yet stop using my hand as a map to show people where I'm from. :) And for you... Why are the Chickens only a maybe? ;)

Hi Mary Alice! It's nice to meet you. I'll be joining the thirty club next summer! I know how to crochet too, although I got kind of burnt out after spending six months making this gorgeous antique-pattern christening dress with size 20 crochet thread for my daughter when she was born. It was like crocheting a giant, intricate doily. I knit more these days.

Opera is beautiful and remains the one performing art that I've yet to see live. It's on my mental list. I've dragged Husband to ballets, symphonies, and numerous plays, but as soon as you mention any kind of musical theater, he takes off running. I'll win out some time, hehe.

The closest I've been to the northeastern states is Washington D.C. Someday, I'll make it all the way up to New York. My dad's family is from Michigan (Muskegon area), though, and we went through the midwest last summer to visit all my extended family. The hand thing always cracks me up, because it's so true.

Oh, the chickens! Haha. I'm glad you asked. It's only a "maybe" because maybe I will get chickens someday and maybe I'll talk about them on here. While Tumblr has given voice to my inner nerd in a big way, my inner hippie (which is every bit as strong) has largely remained in the shadows. I actually want chickens really, really badly, and our city just passed a backyard chicken law, but I've still been debating it simply because we travel a lot--we're typically gone a total of 4-5 weeks out of the year (both our families live out of state). Our when-we-grow-up pipe dream is to buy and restore an old house on a couple acres of land where we have a big garden, a windmill for electricity, chickens for eggs, and a couple dairy goats or a miniature jersey cow for milk. Although, even if we don't live somewhere in the future where that's attainable, I'm still really into the concepts of urban farming.
