okay this is gonna be a hot take that might cause drama
but does anybody else get really annoyed at the disregard/mistreatment of pinky in the fandom? Like I get not liking her because she’s a bit of a jerk but like why do people have more sympathy towards an abusive genocidal tyrant than a child?
people often sympathize with betrayus because he was neglected and cast aside heavily as a child therefore has something to be sympathized for . Along with the fact he’s a fun character with lots of different traits that make him enjoyable to watchers
Pinky has none of that, it isn’t even confirmed if she’s a child or not. Her main and possibly only personality trait is being the obsessed love interest that ruins plans for the sake of jealousy, shes comes off as annoying and uncomfortable to some
she has no known backstory much to my knowledge that shows who she is or how she became the person she is now, giving nothing to sympathize with
thats my 2 cents on it 🤷 I’m not a betrayus fan and I obviously don’t justify what he did but yeah the writers sucked at this
Listen, I’ve been thinking about this post since last night. My thoughts:
(but be warned that my headcanon lore and canon blur together in my brain)
(Second warning, PMATGA is for kids, so a lot of deep analysis is foiled by how little the writers cared. The characters and writing are entirely unconcerned with moral implication. The Common Sense media reviews from angry parents about this are delicious if you get the chance.)
(Third warning, the show’s canon is mostly inconsistent with the character backgrounds and lore. I.e. Betrayus didn’t actually kill the Yellows, and I reject the inconsistency.)
So, for starters, I don’t love Betrayus because I sympathize with him. I love him because he’s awful. He’s the worst impulses of power, despicable, desperate, and mean. He’s theatrical, the voice, the hands, the moustache. The fandom wants to make him into a pitied villain, but I delight in this character that’s just unforgivably bad because he exists safely outside of reality. As a history teacher, he’d make me sick if he were real, but, again, he exists in that harmless, explorative state of fiction.
Pinky: Man, I love Pinky. I think she’s also reprehensible but in an entirely sympathetic way. She acts exactly how I would expect a teenage girl to act if she were stuck at her age and then trapped in a hellscape for years. Think back to your teenage years, the uncertainty, the unstable identity, the obsessions. Then imagine being trapped there.
Keep in mind that Pac would be her version of a ‘bad boy’. The Yellows are seen as enemies of Betrayus’s forces. He would be both a figure of rebellion and salvation to her.
His side (Stratos) also represents the one thing that she wants: her body back. So there are some terrible power dynamics we could discuss being present.
Pinky’s obsession with Pac sometimes manifests itself in being genuinely helpful, but her, (and the ghost gang) playing both sides is ultimately an act of survival.
There’s an aloofness to what they do, and a desperation all at the same time. It’s that teenage idea of apathy and drama rolled into one.
As @peculiarology put it, the ghost gang is severely underutilized and could have had so much more dynamic personalities.

AND, because I cannot resist a shameless plug.
In my original work, inspired by pmatga, Hero of Gold, Haunted, Pinky becomes ‘Mira’, a pretty ghost, who appears to be floating through the world with a coy smile and careless shrug. She’s playful, even flirty, to survive, but beneath her aloof mask burns a calculated rage. (So my deeper implications manifested)

I have to ask about some the plans for the Ghostly Adventures webcomic. I remember a few posts/reblogs (that or my brain is playing with me again, oop–) with a few things that got me really curious to see on it.
The Ghost Gang interacted differently with Pac? Love their designs btw.
What was Spheria's role going to be (about the war, Pac and Betrayus more especifically [she is mentioned twice so I guess she was going to be important])? Any drama or a badass moment?
Was it going to cover several episodes of the series o it was a more linear/shorter story?
Was there going to be a ship with relevance to the story or nah?
Other villains (Apex, the Pacinator, Obtuse, Dr. Pacenstein, Specter, etc) were going to appear or also nah?
Was Stratos going to be a morally grey character?

Yeah, I'm writing a book that follows where the webcomic was going so be on the lookout for that! (Hero of Gold, Haunted: Book One of the Spirits and Superpowers Saga) It has the names altered and a lot of world building and clarified plotlines since I've started so far from canon.
I'll answer these with pmatga names for the sake of clarity, though. Kind of spoilery but I'm keeping some things up my sleeve for the book reveals!
Ghost gang:
The ghost gang had semi-altered personalities from the show. Inky was sneakier and ruthless. He didn't really care what side he was on as long as it was the winning side at that moment. Made him a bit more of a wild card. Pinky was flirtatious with Pac but not obsessive like in the show, I wanted to develop a real relationship between them. Blinky is genuinely trying to do the right thing but is really frustrated with being a ghost and butts heads with Inky often. Clyde is pretty unaltered, I love him. 🧡
Spheria:
Spheria struggles with her PTSD from the war. She's trying really hard to be a guardian to Pac but struggles to overcome her own trauma. Pac finds her a bit unreliable because of this. It's a pretty tragic relationship to start with. Spheria has kind of a regaining of self and sense of purpose when the ghosts arise. She sees it as a second chance to bring justice to the family she failed. I had some great plans with her for the second book (episode) to mentor Cyli and for Pac to gain a new understanding and respect for her. There was a badass scene where she fought a dragon.
Follow the episodes?
Kind of. There's some things I wanted to for sure explore: Cyli's family, Zac and Sunny's relationship and past, Butler's tragedy, etc. I wanted to really explore the Netherworld and the lore of the Mazes. So kind of some filler for character building sake. However, it was going to be more linear, all building up to the end and the twist I had planned. (Someone killed Sunny, and it wasn't Betrayus, a lot of lies get told, everything falls apart)
Ships?
Pac and Pinky, as I mentioned. I like the subversion of Pac with a ghost. (I'm so sorry @ell-arts ) Cyli and Spiral. Betrayus and Spheria have some weird tension and unspoken things from the past going on and I never was sure if I was going to commit to it. And, hey! Fuzbits gets a girl monster!
Other villains:
Obtuse is the only one I kept. He ends up being one of the oligarchs of a foreign country in the comic. His presence as an alternative antagonist forces Pac and Betrayus to work together and reveals some hidden truths.
Stratos:
I'm gonna keep you guessing on that one. It's what he does best anyway 😉
Thank you so much for this ask! I had so much planned and I feel terrible for not continuing but it was a massive amount of effort and I just could not keep up. I hope that by dedicating my efforts to something more original I can maybe one day make enough to pursue my dream as an independent artist and writer!!

(for all you Ghostly Adventures Webcomic fans, this loosely follows my plot from that. The same vibes are there with the characters, mazes and ghosts. However, this is a more complex, dramatic, and rich retelling. I hope you all will support me, as PMATGA inspired this but I have definitely made it my own!)
