Channel Z - The B-52's (1989)
The lake at night
The week was long and on Saturday I was still thinking about the challenge of the week: A poem about
that lake at night.
A short poem.
A haiku maybe.
Finally
I went to a sage up on a mountain high
hoping for inspiration.
He listened closely.
Remained silent for a long time and then said:
"An example?
Listen. Learn.
Look at this mountain.
Focus. Breathe.
Then return to your place
in the valley and... "
he stopped speaking.
Looked at me as I took a deep breath.
Irritated. Almost - irate.
"That's not a haiku.
The sillables, the topic.
Are you kidding me?"
He laughed and said.
"But this sure was one.
Great. Guess you learned your lesson?
Have faith in yourself."
