દ્વારકાના મીઠાપુરના આરંભડા પાસે રેલ્વે ફાટક ખુલ્લુ મુકી નશાની હાલતમાં ગેટમેન ઉંઘતો ઝડપાયો હતો. સૌરાષ્ટ્ર મેલ ટ્રેનના પાઇલોટની સમય સૂચકતાથી દુર્ઘટના ટળી હતી. ટ્રેન રેલ્વે ફાટક નજીક પહોંચવા છતાં ફાટક બંધ ન થતા ટ્રેનના પાઇલોટ ટે્રન થોભાવી દીધી હતી અને ગેટમેનની ઓરડીમાં તપાસ કરતા નશામાં લોથપોથ ઉંઘતો ઝડપાયો હતો. બાદમાં રેલ્વેએ તાત્કાલીક ગેટમેનને ફરજમુકત કરી ખાતાકીય કાર્યવાહી હાથ ધરી હતી.
