So, I highly doubt Fidds was comfortable just using the memory gun on people without their consent (though, we do know he used it on Ford at least once), so I think he'd try to use it for good at first. If he knows someone has seen the Horrors™, he'd offer to erase it from their minds.

But, of course, I don't think very many people would be comfortable with it, so it's sorta like a small business with returning customers, if that makes sense.

Blind Ivan, who he met at the carnival, I do see being comfortable with stuff like that.

At first, they start the way Fidds envisioned, by spreading the word about the Society and recruiting people. But, they don't use the gun as responsibly as Fidds intended (not to say he was responsible with it, either. They were just. worse.) and they started wiping the minds of people without their consent. And when Fiddleford tried to step in, they basically overthrew him. Cuz like, at what point did he stop using he gun? Why were his memories chipped?

I think they purposefully chipped it like that to prevent him from gaining back his memories and stopping them. Cuz if their founder was against what they were doing, then they'd be in the wrong, but no, they were doing a good thing, right?

During that last confrontation, I think Fidds realized just how bad this all was and realized that he had fucked his mind up reeeally bad. And he tried to take the gun from Ivan, and in retaliation, they wiped the Blind Eye from Fidd's mind.

This could also explain why no one remembers who the founder is. Like, it's played for laughs in the show, but Ivan should remember if no one else does, right? So if they were close, then had a confrontation that resulted in the Society getting wiped from Fidds' memory, it would be a massive betrayal to Ivan.

I could 100% see him wiping Fiddleford from his mind, and the rest of the Society. They were so addicted to using it to ease pain that they didn't even think twice about it.

Kinda funny, looking at it like that. This thing was invented to ease pain and erase bad things, but ultimately caused more pain in return.

What were your favorite forgotten Gravity Falls theories?

I recently watched this video and was kind of hoping to find my personal favorite forgotten theories, only to discover these were actually forgotten lol. I honestly really loved the Mystery Trio theory and I think everybody has forgotten about it since the plot debunked it so hard, but I still loved the fan-based stories around the theory, it was really cool and I do miss these. 

Grunkle4Grandpa was also a notable forgotten theory that I supported. I did support it solely because I wanted something that would tie the kids and grunkle Stan even more because I loved their bond, and I suppose him being their grandfather would have done just that. My support of this theory was based on my emotions and attachment to the characters, as rationally I never thought it actually made sense.

a little something from @dubsdeedubs‘ addendum to the original theory post(GO READ IT IF YOU HAVEN’T ALREADY) which really solidified why I appreciate this theory so much

I don’t want to take away Stan’s choices or his agency, or diminish his character arc in any way.  In fact, I want to emphasize his free will, because he makes the decision to be good and kind and loving despite any and all of the external cosmic factors that might be going on.

In this theory, exactly how much of him is Bill is up to interpretation, but regardless of the answer to that question, the important thing is that Stanley Pines is more than Bill Cipher.  He values everything that Bill does not, he’s flawed and human in a way that Bill isn’t, he loves in a way that Bill thinks is weak.  Stan’s a grumpy old man with chronic aches and Bill is a chaos god with near-unlimited power, but when it comes down to it, Stan is stronger.  And when it comes down to it, when two sides of the same coin, similar but at once completely different, face off in the Mindscape, the good wins,

That’s what matters most to me in this theory, that Stan - for once in his long, miserable life - wins and gets his happy ending. “

If beings of such evil can exist in the cosmos, could there possibly be other beings of equal and opposite good? Or is the vast universe filled only with darkness? Tbh, it's the usage of that phrasing, "equal and opposite," referencing the third law of motion, "every action has an equal and opposite reaction" has me convinced that The Axolotl is what happens to Bill's power when you kill him. Jheselbraum, who has a lot of Axolotl imagery on her journal entry, is also described as the opposite of Bill.

Theory/Thing I noticed — Journal 3 Special Edition Spoilers

Hey everyone, an observation here:

So, there's a discrepancy between the journal and the show, and it makes the same mistake twice, so I'm kind of wondering what's going on.

Let's just give a quick rundown about what we know about the journals:

-Journal 1 was given to Stanley with the intention of being brought to a secret location at the ends of the Earth.

-Journal 2 was buried near an elementary school, and contains instructions and maps for evil spells and incantations, as well as an amulet (later found and used by Gideon)

-Journal 3 was hidden underground, in a capsule operable by a switch in a tree.

Except, the books and the show seem to disagree on which journals were taken where.

On the page "Hiding Places" with a sketch of journal 1 and 2, we get a rundown on what each of the journals contains in black ink.

The one that checks out the most is Journal 2 — the book confirms that it’s near the elementary school, and the things it contains. It makes sense.

But then things get strange:

Next to Journal 3, this is what it says in glow in the dark ink:

"Journal 3: The volume I hold in my hands. Describes my embarrassing defeat at the hands of Bill and the loss of my sanity. Also contains a pretty good drawing of a Plaidypus. Will soon be bestowed upon S and hidden at the ends of the earth (I hope)!"

So wait? Journal 3 was going to be given to Stanley??? What happened?

It gets stranger: There's a map showing the location of Journal 1 in the woods, just like the map for journal 2.

Finally, to confuse me further it seems, Ford than says that he isn't able to find a hiding place for Journal 1 and is giving THAT journal to Stanley. 

So was Journal 1 given to Stanley? Or hidden in the woods? Was the plan to give Journal 3 to Stanley, but he changed his mind or something? Which one is it?!

So why would the Journal contradict itself and the show? Twice?

Is it meaningful? A mistake? 

One thing I know for sure is this: It’s a mystery.

I'm sure this joke isn't original, but nevertheless... As many of you know, in the last episode of Gravity Falls if you play Bill Cipher's final words backwards he says "A-X-O-L-O-T-L My time has come to burn. I invoke the ancient power that I may return." And in a Gravity Falls book Dipper and Mabel meet an axolotl who, when asked about Bill, tells a poem that ends with, "If he wants to shirk the blame, he'll have to invoke my name. One way to absolve his crime, a different form, a different time." So, here's my take on Bill's different form. It is a rhombus.

I just realized

In the segment “Hands Off!” when Stan talks about the Hand Witch(which i think was the only true story in that ep) she already knew his name.

We all know from the journal she met Ford so it could explain why she already knew his name...

... But she doesn’t call him Stanford Pines.

She calls him Stan Pines.

She new it was the wrong Stan!

Was There More Than One Ford Traveling the Multiverse?

Ever since the release of the journal, this has been question I've been wondering about for a while. Statistically speaking, it feels like the answer should be a simple "yes" But considering Ford’s descriptions of his travels there is a lot of evidence that seems to bring this into question.

It’s been shown that there are other Fords who have met Bill and built portals exist in other dimensions, but Ford doesn’t appeared to have ever encountered another version of himself in a similar situation to him. He doesn’t mention or appear to have heard of any other Fords running around the multiverse. The survivors in the Nightmare Realm and other such also don’t appear to have encountered another Ford before, which seems to indicate that there hasn’t been another version has passed through before the one we know did. There’s no other Fords who appear to have gotten the same idea as him to build a weapon to destroy Bill with, there’s no other Fords present when he does ultimately confront Bill and, despite Bill having tricked several Fords into building portals for him, it appears only one Stan portal opens from a Stan attempting to bring Ford back.

On top of that, the dimensions Ford travels to, particularly the ones closest to his home dimension, seem exist to more-or-less within the same time frame as his. If there were multiple versions of Ford who were pushed through the portal, wouldn’t at least some of them have entered Bill’s dimension at around the same time as our Ford?

The closest he gets to meeting another version of himself is when he encounters the Better World, but not only does Ford never (or rather, can’t) personally meet that alternate Ford, but it’s also one who was never pushed into a portal. Granted, there’s not much frame of reference since Ford doesn’t appear to have found many - if any - more dimensions so similar to his own, but perhaps dimensions similar to the Better World are the norm and Ford’s dimension is the exception.

There’s also the matter of Ford having a bounty placed on his head by Bill, which is said to be known about through millions of dimensions:

But, interestingly enough, it's written in a singular tense. There's no "1 of 618" or “ ___ x 10,000″ or any references or there allusions to there potentially being multiple versions of the same bounty that can be collected on. If Bill considered Ford enough of a threat to put a out a reward in exchange for his capture, wouldn’t he have wanted to do the same for every Ford who fell through the portal?

Then of course there is Jheselbraum, the oracle Ford encounters later in his travels. When he first meets her, he describes her to “already know [Ford’s] name and what [his] mission was,” which could indicate she has met other Ford’s and has thus had similar conversations more than once. However she, as her title implies, accurately predicted the finale, so it could also easily be because she's psychic and/or privy to information outside of her dimension.

With all this in mind, my conclusion: Only one dimension in the GF-multiverse Ford has ever been pushed through the portal. While a some of this was perhaps done for the sake of simplicity in the story, it does raise some interesting ideas:

Imagine discovering that, in the vast sea of infinite dimensions with infinite possibilities, you were the only version of yourself that fucked up as badly as you did.
