Grunkle 4 Grandpa? In 2023. It's possible
So guys. Grunkle 4 Grandpa theory. The reason I joined tumblr to begin with. I never really gave up believing that it was if nothing else, Hirsch's original intention. But now things are different. There is one last chance for this theory to actually be confirmed.
Why would The Book of Bill, a book about Bill Cipher, air out the Pine's family's dirty laundry? That seems off topic for the story. But here's the thing. Because of all the dark and satanic stuff, the book is inherently marketed for adults. And it being for adults means that The Book of Bill can go into the one secret Hirsch was not allowed to discuss in Gravity Falls proper.
That's not all. For Bill to know about this secret, he needs access to it. So far we have seen the entirety of Bill's history with Ford via Journal #3. This would be the secrets Bill was present for. But those secrets aren't new to either the main cast or the audience. However, Bill has access to new secrets. STAN'S SECRETS. When Bill reforms, he will reform in Stan's mindscape. He will have access to all of Stan's dirty laundry. And as revenge for Stan trying to destroy him, Bill will drag out his deepest shame.
What were your favorite forgotten Gravity Falls theories?
I recently watched this video and was kind of hoping to find my personal favorite forgotten theories, only to discover these were actually forgotten lol. I honestly really loved the Mystery Trio theory and I think everybody has forgotten about it since the plot debunked it so hard, but I still loved the fan-based stories around the theory, it was really cool and I do miss these.
Grunkle4Grandpa was also a notable forgotten theory that I supported. I did support it solely because I wanted something that would tie the kids and grunkle Stan even more because I loved their bond, and I suppose him being their grandfather would have done just that. My support of this theory was based on my emotions and attachment to the characters, as rationally I never thought it actually made sense.
What about you? What are some of your favorite forgotten GF theories that were or weren’t mentioned in the video?
Has it been years since Gravity Falls ended? Yes.
Have I ever stopped loving Grunkle4Grandpa and being kind of annoyed that they apparently introduced an as-of-that-point completely unmentioned and never even alluded to existing third Pines brother in order to keep Stan as their uncle instead of exploring the possibly outcomes of it being revealed he was actually their grandfather? Probably not.
its absolutely wild that new people are watching Gravity Falls and they’re not experiencing the fandom side at all. For me the fandom was half of the experience.
The fake screenshots, the crazy (true!!) theories, THE CYPHERHUNT!!
I’m rewatching some of it with my roommate and she’s not interested AT ALL in fan theories. I’m screaming because it was literally my life in 10th grade.
soooo this is something i posted on my insta. i needed to make this for some reason
Wise Elder voice:
My children, gather around and let me tell you the ancient tale of Grunkle4Grandpa.
Okay long story made short. The fandom figured out pretty early that "the twist" of Gravity Falls was going to be that Grunkle Stan was going to have a twin brother also named Stan. It made the most logical sense. Between Stan being shady about stuff and Dipper and Mabel being twins. The young Stan we saw in the black shirt clearly being a different guy from our Stan who was shown in a white shirt at that age. By the end of season 1 we knew. We were just waiting on the confirmation.
But here's the thing in order for Stan to be the twin's Great Uncle he needs to be the brother of their Grandfather. At the time as far as we knew two Pines brother existed. The two Stan twins. Which means the most logical conclusion was the Stan we hadn't met yet was the Grandfather. Yeah the idea of a 3rd brother existed but it was dismissed for a legitimate reason. If Stan has another brother then how is his twin brother a secret? Surely brother number 3 would remember his own brother? So as much as the fandom laughs at the theory now, most of those people were also wrong by assuming that Stanford was the grandfather (which he isn't) and forget the theory itself made sense with the information available at the time which again was there are two Stan brothers.
The prevailing assumption was that Stan was the twin's Great Uncle and his twin brother that we had yet to meet was the Grandfather and you can find fan content reflecting that. However being aware how much this show likes to trick its audience and reward finding hidden clues and messages another theory arose in the fandom. That Stan was actually the Twin's Grandfather and was pretending to be his brother, their Great Uncle. A theory that turned out to be half true! Stan was in fact pretending to be his brother! The Stan everyone thought was the Grandfather.
The show very, very lazily threw in a single line about a third brother and a half second clip of a baby in the Stan twins' backstory. Before this no allusion was made to Grunkle Stan having more than one brother. His twin.
Looking back it is easy to make fun of but that's because now people can watch the whole show with no breaks and information easily available. But were I to give you the same information we had when the theory was crafted I am sure at least half of you would also think Grunkle 4Grandpa was not only a solid theory but the most logical place for the show to go.
Ready?
Biggest takeaway from season 1, "Stan Is Not What He Seems."
Well who does Stan seem to be?
Dipper and Mabel's Great Uncle on their father's side. That is who he seems to be. That's his character because that is his relationship to the protagonist (Dipper) and the deuteragonist (Mabel) of the show.
If he is not what he seems that means he is NOT their Great Uncle Stan. And if he is not their Great Uncle Stan, who could he be?
.
Except he is. As far as his relationship to Dipper and Mabel? The thing that ties him to the story? He is exactly what he seems to be. Their Great Uncle. He's just the other one. He's Stanley Pines and not Stanford Pines. Stan changes as a character for the viewer but not for Dipper and Mabel. Now guess which is more important for a strong story?

This was something I had written back in April 2016, and then promptly forgot about/gave up on. Posting here for posterity (and the chance that maybe one day I'll pick it back up.) (But probably not.)
