Talent what talent? Maybe the BBC are looking in the wrong place.
Firstly I love Sherlock especially the BBC Sherlock, and feel that Benedict and Martin made those roles into something very special! These are just my opinions...
So today, I have been talking to someone about the BBC Sherlock. As we know and continue to talk about, the last series left many people deeply unsatisfied, angry, disappointed, or generally... underwhelmed...
Today Tumblr is full of reports from Sherlocked USA, and many attendees having paid huge amounts of money seem to have been fobbed off or given half arsed answers from Moffat and Gatis.
I was thinking about the arts in general, whether it be TV, Film, Music, drama etc. Only a few years ago. The spotlight shone only on those few who were lucky enough to make it, by chance or maybe by association into the limelight. And as a result we have seen some amazing writers, singers, actors etc. But it also seems that some of these writers (Ok, yeah... I'm going to talk about Moffat and Gatis in particular here) Might at one time have been good, might have had some great ideas in certain areas and with the help of some phenomenal actors. Managed to pull off some really good work, and had us thoroughly excited. But, ya know, it seems to me that they seem to have depended on past successes a little too long and now are mediocre at best.
When I think of TV in general, at one time only those who had been to drama school would generally (yes I know there re exceptions) have a shot at presenting, acting etc. But with the invention of You tube etc etc. Whilst there is still a lot of mediocre stuff out there, a few shining stars have been found and still many who should be in the limelight. Looking at writers. I haven't been on Tumblr long, and don't see myself as a writer. But OMG there is some talent here.
Yes of course there are a lot of stories that are fun! Easy to read and forgettable, some that you go back to time and time again. And some are just plain brilliant. How can writers such as Gatis an Moffat not only rest on the laurels and produce mediocre at best, when there are so many brilliant writers here alone that could do so much better. But also sometimes mock the fandom and it's writers. Personally I think they should be running scared, and TV and film producers should be looking further afield for good writers.
Anyway these are just my ramblings, I would love to see Performance in a leading Role http://archiveofourown.org/works/532678 on main stream TV as an ongoing series. I would also love to see the Omega sutra http://archiveofourown.org/works/476125 out there, but not sure maybe that main stream TV would be suitable ;) ah so many others I would love to see, but also so many others that are written so much better Moffat and Gatis can write. Be afraid gentlemen. You are in a precarious place.
