Au where after dying wwx’s soul returns to lotus pier in the form of ghost. No one can see him unless he wants them too, so he stays in lotus pier protecting its inhabitants (guiding lost children home, helping the crops grow, protecting families from corpses, etc.) and he eventually becomes an urban myth known as the fairy of lotus pier. Even though not many can see him, they still know someone is there helping them. Children often pick up lotuses for him and hang them on trees like ornaments.

BIH IM SOFT FOR THIS I HAVE A THING FOR WWX’S GHOST AESTHETICS PLEASE

- the rule was that if you wanted his help, you need to have a lotus in your hand and you go to the docks alone at midnight then you say your wish/concern/need and you leave the lotus there and you go back home (but never turn around to check if someone arrives)- if it’s a group wish, you can’t bring more than 3 people (stories says he’s fond of the number 3 especially if you’re siblings)- if you know more, you’ll get a tip that bringing a jar of emperor’s smile as a bribe might actually do the trick (if you add a bowl of spicy food then the higher the likelihood your wish will be granted)- if in the middle of you saying your wish, you see a silhouette approaching - run (that is not him for he never shows himself while you’re saying your story - that’s another entity entirely and you don’t want to be involved there)- on the next night after you’ve said your wish and given your offerings properly, if you hear the sweet melody of a dizi in your sleep then know that your wish has been heard - whether he’ll help you or not is another story entirely- some success stories say varying things but they have one thing in common: someone with long flowing hair dressed in black and hair ties with a single red ribbon and a dizi either hanging on his hips or touching his lips appears - nobody ever remembers his face- if one day you suddenly find yourself holding a lotus flower with no recollection why and how that happened, know that it means your wish has been granted- how he interpreted your wish and how he grants it is another story as well

- sect leader jiang knows of this phenomenon and every night he leaves all the necessary calls and bribes (and even adds odd trinkets like kites, a bowl of lotus soup, and once - the yunmeng jiang bell)- the ghost never appears before him - ah, but he did once though - when it was full moon, the halls of yunmeng jiang sect is empty as all the disciples have gone back to their families to celebrate mid-autumn festival, and sect leader jiang is drunk on his wine and tears (he appears and sits close, but doesn’t dare go closer)

- little jin ling once wished to have his parents back- the next day, he finds himself sleeping beside his jiujiu and a note is attached to the lotus flower on his hand which says ‘i cannot give back what i stole’- little jin ling does not understand and his jiujiu’s hardened and pained gaze does not answer him

…

- years later, jin ling whispers another wish that hopes his first night hunt in mt dafan will be successful- the goddess appears and chaos happens leaving jin ling together with lan sizhui and lan jingyi- lan jingyi shouts a question at jin ling “why are you holding a lotus flower at this point in time?!”- then a dizi resounds in the mountain

guys! I wrote another sad fic! here you go!

Summary:

He's cold, he's always cold, his robes in tatters and never seem to keep him warm no matter how tightly he wraps them around his thin frame.

The only thing that breaks the monotony is screams. Screams and blood, fear, pain..and RAGE. -=- Wei Ying never made it to the burial grounds, Wen Chao instead decided to use him as an example to anyone who disobeyed him, to anyone who rebelled against the wens.

Wei Ying, murdered by Wen Chao, turns into a vengeful ghost and Lan Zhan and Jiang Cheng fight to put Wei Ying to rest.

Comments: What if WWX died as a rogue demonic cultivator and Lan Zhan fell in love with his ghost? Well... This is such a sweet story. Lonely, socially akward Lan Zhan and oblivious ghost!WWX make such a great “will they, won’t they” pair. I loved their slow developing relationship, the misunderstandings, the strange coparenting of A-Yuan and how the author adjusted canon events to fit their AU. Fair warning: Lan Zhan will break your heart every time he tries to do his duty and help his love move on... I promise there’s a happy ending though.
