The terrible irony of Xue Yang and Jin Guangyao never being able to replicate Wen Ning's ferocious power in their fierce corpse experiments is that, really, they did have the perfect candidate for it all along. A person who, like Wen Ning, spent his whole life serving others, swallowing down one humiliation after another, pretending to be satisfied with his lot in life, grinning and bearing the worst of humanity's prejudices and cruelties—the perfect conditions for creating resentment strong enough to fuel a fierce corpse of the Ghost General’s caliber.

Fortunately for Jin Guangyao (and the cultivation world at large), Xue Yang was never going to make that connection on his own.

Wei Wuxian leaving the cultivation world, be it before his resurrection or after just means so much to me. But especially him leaving with the Wen remnants because the Wen siblings mean the world to me.

They wouldn't leave right away of course not, the Wen remnants don't have a reason to stay but they understand that Wei Wuxian does. He has his family still, he has Lan Wangji, he might have turned his back on the cultivation world but he hasn't turned his back to the people he loves. He knows somewhere in his mind that it could never be the same, he can never go back to the way of the sword and he wont be accepted back until he does. ( And until he gives up or destroys the Stygian Tiger Amulet )

They are living on borrowed time and that wouldn't be clearer than when he is attacked at Qionqi path. Wei Wuxian knows that despite him being the one who is attacked, anyone's death but his own will only be taken as a sign of aggression on his part. There is no way out of Qionqi path without him and Wen Ning having to take lives to defend themselves. So when Jin Zixuan arrives, Wei Wuxian and Wen Ning flee. They know, once word gets back to the clan leaders their borrowed time will run out.

He is not foolish enough to think they will spare anyone, not Granny Wen and certainly not little A-Yuan. The decision to leave is made the second the realization dawns on him. His sister is married now, his brother has rebuilt his clan. They will be alright, perhaps even better without connections to him. He protected them just like he promised and now he will protect the Wen remnants like he promised to himself when he said he would always protect the weak and live with no regrets. And he would regret nothing more than leaving little A-Yuan to a fate of paying for crimes of a clan he would never even know.

He is going to miss his Lan Zhan, but he will not stand by and let innocent people be killed for no reason at all.
