The Ghost Diaries: Entry 1

When I sit down at the bench, I could stay for hours. I know the patterns; I have learned complex configurations that create various harmonies. I know which chords sound like Sunday mornings and which sound like suicide. I can completely express myself. My piano knows me better than any person ever could. Mom sold the piano last week to pay for medicine. She has benefits but I guess that doesn't really matter if the banks are empty. Since then, I have memorized every nook and cranny of this apartment while slowly watching her wither into nothing. Mom sent me to bed early. She said she loved me more than I'll ever know. She said, "always follow your heart Kimmy, remember happiness is a choice, kindness a gift, and bravery your only option. Pack your bags and leave first thing tomorrow morning. Don't bother coming back, I won't be here." I really wish I had my piano.
