1. If you were forced to be a drunken beatnik poet (curse you, Obama!), who would you be and why?
Giiiirrrrrrllll. What in our decade-plus friendship gave you the impression that I know shit about poets and poetry? Well, alright. If I have to choose, I'd be Baudelaire. Because of this prose poem:
Alone, at last! Not a sound to be heard but the rumbling of some belated and decrepit cabs. For a few hours we shall have silence, if not repose. At last the tyranny of the human face has disappeared, and I myself shall be the only cause of my sufferings.
At last, then, I am allowed to refresh myself in a bath of darkness! First of all, a double turn of the lock. It seems to me that this twist of the key will increase my solitude and fortify the barricades which at this instant separate me from the world.
2. You are granted a limitless travel budget for the trip of your dreams. Catch: you may not do an Eat, Pray, Love-style “find yourself in other people’s cultures while simultaneously exploiting them, being entitled, and generally hateable” trip. Where do you go? Why? (Please don’t say to find yourself in the colors and spices of India, please? Please?!)
I'd go to England. I'd spend months upon months walking the old foot trails of the English countryside. Because the two things that make me feel best these days are taking long walks in pretty places, and having a tea party.
3. *Poof* you’re peanut butter. Who is your jelly?
Olallieberry jam. Obviously.
4. Your most embarrassing fart story. Give it to me.
I can't think of one. After 34 years of holding it in until I was alone, my sphincter is so tight, as Ferris put it, I could produce diamonds. It's probably one of my greatest talents.
5. The book you’d wish you’d written? (If it’s Eat, Pray, Love, you may skip this question.)
The Rain Catchers by Jean Thesman. Is it a prize winner? No. But for some reason, and I'm not sure I can articulate why, it really touched me as a kid. It might have been my first real introduction to literary theme and metaphor. I love that book. Incidentally, my well-worn copy is missing, and the book is out of print.
QUESTIONS FOR THE PEOPLE I'VE TAGGED:
Your car breaks down in a small town and the part you need will take a week to get shipped so suddenly you're spending an unexpected week in Smalltown, USA. Which of the townspeople do you have a torrid affair with and why?
You're Indiana Jones. What is the best treasure you've "uncovered"? Bonus points if you tell us how you got it.
Pancakes, waffles, or french toast? Why?
What is your favorite museum? Why?
What is your favorite movie soundtrack? Why?
