You were exhausted. While being a med-jack isnât normally so tough, today you had five slicers come in, all needing stitches. Your handiwork had been pretty rough in the beginning, but by now you might as well be a pro. However, this perfection cost you dinner and you haven't eaten since lunch.
It was now a few hours after lightâs out, and you were just heading to bed. You had your own room in the Homestead as you were the only girl; it was tagged on at the end of the hall. You were headed there now, walking as quietly as possible as the keepers were all asleep. However, as you passed one door you heard light sobs and whimpers. Newtâs room.
You and Newt had grown close ever since you had come up in the box three months ago, frightened out of your mind. He coaxed you out, gave you the tour, and helped stop any gladers from harassing you. He was your best friend. And if you had to admit it, which you would never, he had a bit of a crush on him as well.
You stopped abruptly, pressing your ear against the door. You crack the door slightly, peeking in. You spot a tuft of blonde hair and Newtâs body curled up in a tight ball, shaking. From his mouth he let out whines and mumbled words. You could make out words like ânoâ and âplease.â Lots of pleases.Â
You quickly stepped in, closing the door lightly behind you. As you approached him you noticed sweat piling up on his forehead, and his brow furrowed. The worst part was watching tears gently fall from his scrunched eyes. You kneeled at his bedside, leaning down over his body. You gently ran your fingers through his dirt-caked hair, cooing into his ear.
âShhhh, itâs okay... you're okay.â He still whimpered, crying a little harder. You knew you had to wake him. You gently shaked his shoulders. âNewt. Newt, please wake up! Itâs okay, youâre okay, itâs me.â Hearing your voice his eyes fluttered, and suddenly big, brown, doe eyes were staring up at you.Â
âY-Y/N?â he stuttered. âIâm here; everything is okay.â He teared up again and you brushed off the stray tears on his cheeks. âWhat happened? What were you dreaming aboutâ you whispered, grabbing his hand.Â
âYou,â he said, voice cracking. âYou died, y-you y-youâŠâÂ
âShhhhhh,â you cooed. âIâm okay. Donât worry.â You stood to reposition yourself, but Newt quickly grabbed onto your arm.Â
âPlease donât go. Please.â
âI wonât. I wonât,â you reassured. You decided to walk over to the other side of the bed and you laid down. Newt stared at you. âCome here,â you whispered, opening your arms. He gently shifted over to you, and you guided his head to your shoulder. You wrapped one arm around his waist, and the other you rested around the back of his head. âIâm okay,â you said slowly. âIâm okay.â He nodded into your neck, kissing it lightly. You smiled, and kissed his head in return.Â
âThank you,â he whispered.
 âYouâre welcome.â
