🦋 #explorealberta #butterflies #abparks #dontgobreakingmyparks . A moment of reflection in a place that I love. Breathing space. Its hard for me to not want to muscle my way through everything. This place reminds me that that isn't always necessary. Pausing to take a break. Resisting the urge to "do something" is hard RN but necessary. . My very first job was with Canadian Pacific ... Union Station in Toronto ... many, many years ago. A pause we rarely take ... to reflect on how far we have come and the journey that has brought here. How the road has both held and shaped us through hills and valleys ... detours and unexpected paths. All the things we carry ... grounding us ... weighting us down. The hum, squeal, and roar of life's constant momentum and movement ... the tug and pull of the road and how we travel along it ... . Then there is the yellow butterfly that insisted on landing directly on my path ... as if to say ... "notice me". A playful flutter of gold wings saying ... "in me see how things are always changing ... caterpillars ... butterflies ... flowers ... all changing ... nothing permanent". Therein lies the fragile root of beauty ... on the razor edge of impermanence ... not in the heavy strength of steel ... but it is in the lightness of breath where wings are found ... and the happiness of air and sky." . 🚶🏽‍♀️ #home #capturecalgary #dontgobreakingmyparks . Its hard not to get caught up in the heaviness of this moment ... the pandemic and bad politics of it ... a time of great upheaval ... marked by such terrible fear and heartbreak ... and the literal and figurative unpacking ... of all the things that make us who we are ... or who want to be in this world. The heavy work of reimagining our lives and walking onwards ... through it all ... holding both hope and pain ... with each step ... towards ... and away ... . But there is also a sense of the futility ... getting all caught up in this kind of fretting ... especially when the flowers are in full-bloom and the mountains are beckoning. To worry is to waste the beauty that is here now in such exuberant abundance ... . So this week, against all manner of good and common sense ... I plan to abandon my unpacked boxes, the disorganized piles of things that desperately need my attention ... my unwieldy and weighty "to-do list" ... the "shouldas" and "oughtas" ... and chase the sun for awhile ☀️ ... lean into the summer winds and go on an adventure or two ... to discover and reconnect with the heartbeat that is present in all things ... and that is particularly present here in these places ... the wild places that I love ... home ... where my heart has always belonged and feels joyful.
