Der Tobi würde wahrscheinlich behaupten, daß ich ständig Carousel anschaue, dabei habe ich offensichtlich seit Bestehen dieses Internettagebuchs noch nie Carousel angeschaut, was mich jetzt auch ein wenig wundert. Carousel ist nämlich total interessant. Nicht nur enthält es den definiten Prüfstein für Barihunks “Soliloquy” und einen sehr anrührenden Choral, den inzwischen alle für eine Fußballhymne halten, sondern auch noch experimentelle Erzählstrukturen, eine Szene im Himmel und ein schlimmes Ende. Laut Time Magizine ist es das beste Musical des 20. Jahrhunderts. Der Film ist irgendwie nicht ganz idael geworden (aber ich mag ihn), und weil die Hauptdarsteller die gleichen wie im Oklahoma-Film sind, verliert er immer im Vergleich. Trotzdem ist es eigentlich wirklich viel interessanter. "Oklahoma! is about a picnic, Carousel is about life and death." befindet Stephen Sondhein, am Tobi prallt es aber irgendwie immer ab. So auch die uns nun dank der “The Show Must Go On”- Maßnahmen netterweise zur Verfügung gestellten konzertanten Fassung aus dem Lincoln Center, mit dem sehr charmanten Nathan Gunn, Kelli O’Hara und “Waitress” Jessie Mueller, die ihnen ein bisschen die Show stiehlt, aber nur ein bisschen, dem legendären John Cullum (den wir in The Scotsborough Boys gesehen haben) als Sternenwärter und den Jud aus Tervor Nunn’s Oklahoma Shuler Hensley. Es ist wunderbar. Und total interessant.
