Hi! Do you know of any systems that would work for playing a game of "Suburbs and SUVS"? I really wanna roleplay a suburban mom named Karen.

Assuming you’re going with the “awful people doing awful things to each other” interpretation of the genre (and with a lead-in like that, I can’t imagine you aren’t!), you could probably knock together a Skulduggery playset easily enough. It has a couple of features that make it well-suited for a game about warring soccer dads and PTA moms:

1. Not only does it have a full-featured social combat sytem (which is, in fact, the primary combat system – actual physical fights are considered an optional rule), it has a literal type matchup grid for different argumentative styles; for example, Glib trumps Pure-Hearted, but is trumped by Obtuse, while Charming trumps Wary, but is trumped by Contrary, and so forth.

2. The game enforces awfulness by having each playset define a set of temptations to which player chartacters are prey, with each player character being ranked according to their resistance to that temptation; whenever the oportunity to indulge it arises, a resistance roll is called for. For example, if the playset defined “Pedantry” as one of its temptations, whenever the opportunity to nitpick arose, player characters would have to make a literal saving throw to resist the urge to go “well, ACTUALLY…”.

In fact, I’m going to go you one better than a recommendation – I’m going to call a brainstorming session. Another of Skulduggery’s key features is its use of taglines for resource management. In a nutshell, each player is randomly assigned a set of 2–3 bits of dialogue at the start of play, and in order to replenish their resources, they need to find excuses to deploy their taglines in situationally appropriate ways. For example, if you’re using a playset about over-intellectual pirates trying to elect a new captain (one of the included examples), you might hand out taglines like these:

“That was brave and magnificent – two qualities I loathe.“

“Rest assured that I betray my friends only after prolonged consideration.“

“On a tangential note, my gleaming cutlass hungers for blood.”

… while if you were using a playset about Congressional representatives trying to get their nominee for Secretary of State confirmed while avoiding mention of that little cannibalism incident (also an included example), you might distribute taglines like these:

“I used to believe that, when I was young and drunk.“

“If Washington is Hollywood for ugly, you’re a superstar.”

“Let me interrupt you right there. I don’t have anything to say, I just want to interrupt.”

So, folks, if y’all are game: let’s help the OP brainstorm suitable taglines for a “Suburbs and SUVS”playset. How ‘bout it?

(Taglines that imply the existence of particular characters and events – e.g., an incident involving the speaker’s alleged soccer prodigy – are fine, but no specific names or places. Gotta keep things flexible!)

Hi! I currently have 21 hairs there (I always add the number to the tags of the request asks, so you can check the status!). If it runs out, I’m going to retexture random hairs that I like, but considering, it wasn’t empty in the past… 3 or so years, I think it’s quite unlikely XD

Do you have particular traits in mind for the Winterose sims? Or is that too spoilery?

I do, but I feel leaving it up to the player is a better decision. I have a very specific vision, but every player will of course interpret it differently and have their own read on things, that’s the beauty of it! :D
