Internship Opportunities for Indian Students Abroad
In today's increasingly globalised world, internships in other countries have emerged as an essential stepping stone for students from India who are interested in pursuing careers in other countries.
In addition to the academic learning that can be gained, internships abroad provide opportunities to get practical experience, exposure to different cultures, and the chance to create a worldwide network.
These possibilities have the potential to greatly improve the qualifications of Indian students' resumes and increase their prospects of finding job in the future, both in India and elsewhere in the world.
In this blog, we will discuss the advantages, different sorts of internships, popular locations, the application process, and some helpful hints for Indian students who are interested in obtaining abroad internships.
Why Should You Engage in Internships Abroad?
1. Exposure to the world's industries
Students have the opportunity to get exposure to the work culture of international enterprises, non-governmental organisations (NGOs), research institutions, and startups through internships overseas.
They develop an understanding of the industry standards and expectations that are prevalent in global marketplaces, which are frequently considerably distinct from the practices that are prevalent in India.
2. Enhancement of the Resume
An internship in a foreign country is a great way to boost your resume. Having foreign experience is highly valued by employers, particularly when students have worked in teams that are multicultural and diverse by nature.
3. Cultural Intelligence (CI)
Adaptability, communication, and the ability to operate in a variety of contexts are all skills that are needed in today's global workforce. Living and working in a new nation can help you develop these skills faster.
4. The Establishment of Professional Networks
While working in a foreign country, you have the opportunity to cultivate relationships with experts from all over the world, which may result in future job offers or recommendations.

The following is a list of some of the most popular internship locations that Indian students want to visit:
States of America
Internships are available in the United States of America in the fields of technology, business, research, and media. There is a particularly strong interest in STEM subjects among students in India.
United Kingdom of Great Britain
Internships in the United Kingdom are typically connected to academic programs and are well-structured. The fields of finance, law, engineering, and marketing all provide excellent chances for those who are interested.

In Australia
Australia, which is well-known for its laid-back work culture, provides internship opportunities in the fields of environmental sciences, hospitality, and healthcare.
In Canada
Especially in the fields of information technology, biotechnology, and finance, Canada is a student-friendly country that provides internship programs through co-op schooling.
In Singapore
The proximity of Singapore to India and the cultural compatibility of the country make it a popular destination for Indian students seeking internships in the fields of finance, logistics, and technology startups.
Internship Programs That Are Available in Various Types
1. Internships that are Linked to Universities
During the summer or semester holidays, a number of universities in India and other countries work together to provide internships or exchange possibilities for students.
2. Internships in the Business World
Students have the opportunity to submit internship applications directly to multinational corporations or startups located in other countries.
Data analytics, marketing, software engineering, and business development are all areas that are experiencing a considerable amount of demand.
3. Summer Internships in Research

Enhance your ability to communicate by becoming fluent in either English or the language spoken in the area.
Use career cells, professors, or consultants to perform a review of your curriculum vitae and statement of purpose.
Stay active on LinkedIn, as this is where the majority of internships are posted by recruiters.
In spite of the fact that rejections are prevalent, it is important to remain persistent.

Korea Internship Beginnings
Hi everyone! Teresa here again - I just arrived in Seoul about two weeks ago and have been adjusting back to life here, but this time, as an intern! Like I mentioned in my introductory post, I’m interning here over the summer at an international exchange NGO called Better World; the team in particular that I’m working on implements the National Security Language Initiative for Youth (NSLI-Y) Scholarship in Seoul - this program is a US State Department intensive language study program for American high school students and offers merit scholarships for them to study abroad. This past weekend, all 50 students in the program arrived in Seoul, underwent two days of orientation, and met their host families for the first time. Throughout the weekend, I was buried in various tasks in order to help successfully implement the orientation, but my main task had to deal with taking pictures and filming videos of the students as they went through orientation (as seen in the picture below).
Essentially, my biggest project throughout the duration of my program and internship is to compile a “Farewell Video” for the students’ closing ceremony in August. This video, approximately 10 minutes in length, will serve to be a summary of the students’ activities, intensive Korean language classes, and homestay experiences. Although I do have some basic video editing experience, I am definitely no editing expert; that’s what I like about this internship though – it’s giving me room to explore my strengths and improve upon the skills I already have.
Throughout the past two weeks, I’ve been able to learn a lot about a part of Korean life I was mostly oblivious to before: workspace hierarchy. Before going on this internship, I took part in GT’s global internship orientation where I learned about the resources available to me and the various different working environments throughout the world. At this orientation, I learned that Korea, in general, places more emphasis on hierarchy and position title in the work place than most countries. With that in mind, I think I was prepared for the kind of work environment I would be immersed in, especially as a bottom tier intern. My vocabulary has also expanded with this new space: titles like 간사님 (assistant administrator), 대리님 (assistant manager), 팀장님 (team manager), 실장님 (head of department), and 이사장님 (head director) have become a part of my daily speech. Although it’s been quite a switch from my normal day-to-day Korean vocabulary set, I love learning about this new part of Korean culture!
Besides working, I’ve also had the opportunity to go on a day trip with some friends to Jeonju, South Korea. From Seoul, it’s about a 2.5 hour bus ride, so definitely doable if you only have a day to spare!
As you can see from the image above, Jeonju is a far contrast from the hustle and bustle from daily life in the very metropolitan Seoul. In fact, it was kind of refreshing to see all of the greenery and even made me appreciate just how green of a city Atlanta has become in recent years.
Jeonju is also famous for it’s traditional architecture and food – it’s even considered to be the “spiritual capital” of the Joseon dynasty! Despite living in Korea for nearly a year, I felt a bit left out for never having visit Jeonju, but not I’m glad to say that I’ve ticked it off my Korea bucket list!
As of right now, the busy part of my job has just begun with the arrival of the program’s students; and for the next six weeks that they’ll be here, I’ll be out and about recording their experiences and doing my best to ensure that they have a rewarding time on the program. Looking forward to updating the blog with any more interesting experiences/stories that I encounter throughout the remainder of my internship!
Are you doing an international internship? Have you considered staying with a host family? Carter Hartmann ’18 spent eight weeks in Kyrgyzstan living with a host family and interning at a travel agency through Lehigh’s acclaimed Iacocca International Internship Program. During his time there, Hartmann helped Kyrgyz high school students planning to study in the United States prepare for their own international experience. Just as important, Hartmann was able to immerse himself in a culture very different than his own, experiencing Ramadan in a predominately Muslim country and celebrating iftar, the breaking of the daily fast, with his ne w friends abroad. He so enjoyed his experience in Kyrgyzstan that he’s now considering working abroad after graduation in a similar capacity, educating young people about American culture and learning about their culture in return.
“I’ve been on short tours with my family and stayed in hotels, but living with a host family was totally different. Every day, you’re faced with challenges you’d never expect—even simple things like communicating with people. It opened my mind to things I never thought of before.”
Ajou University
Our last university visit was to Ajou University in Suwon, home of the Suwon World Cup Stadium a venue for the 2002 World Cup that is within close proximity to the university. The university was located on the left hand side of the road that we were on, and interestingly the bus driver made a U-turn in the middle of the road so we would be able to drive a ways down to enter the gate of the…
