Cupcake Update 5 Taste off

Hello Cupketeers!

I was thinking I should explain why I've decided to send our update on

a Tuesday, apparently most other firms send them Friday or over the

weekend. Basically Tuesday has always caught me by surprise. Monday you

expect, Wednesday is halfway to the weekend, Thursday is almost Friday

and well then it's the weekend and we are all out having far to much

fun and eating cupcakes to be reading emails. So Tuesday is my least

favourite day and I figure what better day to get news about cupcakes!

I thought I would use this weeks 'cupdate' to tell you about some of

our favourite things.

Bio-D is an ethically motivated company that produces wonderful natural

cleaning products here in the UK.  Their cleaning products are

environmentally responsible having a minimum impact on the environment

both through their use and in their manufacture.

In their own words “ The ingredients that Bio-D use are plant derived

and from renewable sources wherever possible. None of Bio-D raw

materials are tested on animals, they are all GM free and wherever

animal by-products are used they are at the scrutiny and approval of

The Vegan Society, Naturewatch Trust, BUAV and the World Wildlife

Foundation.  Likewise the bottles that Bio-D use are recyclable and

contain optimum levels of recycled material.”

We like it and love their washing up liquid, especially the lavender

Also this month we have done an epic two county taste test and we are

very happy to say that Lancashire and Cumbria have voted Stringer Dry

stout the winner of a My Fair Cupcake blind stout cake taste testing,

try saying that after four cupcakes!

We like Stingers and want to use their Stout over other bands because

in their words "We're a small family-run outfit. Serious about giving

our customers the service they need, but small enough that we can

concentrate on quality rather than quantity."

Their brewery is 100% renewable electricity, from wind, wave, small

scale hydro and solar power. This will have generated zero grams of

CO2 and zero grams of high-level radio-active waste.

We are presently looking into switching to their supplier rather than

our original aim of just offsetting and long term private solar power.

Stingers do have a Diesel van but to cover the last year they have

offset 6.4 tonnes of CO2 (about 13000 miles-worth) through support of

Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) clean energy projects in developing

countries that have generated CER credits. CDM projects are fully

verified to Kyoto / United Nations (UN) standards via an independent

Designated Operating Entity. These CER offsets are retired / cancelled

through the UK Environmental Agency's carbon registry. We are also

looking into this for ourselves as we do believe carbon offsetting is a

healthy and responsible practice. We can deliver cupcakes by bike all

the time, as cool as it would be, its just not practical.

As you know our website is not yet up and running. We want it to be

perfect and ready to use when it launches. We are just finalising the

menu, all suggestions still being accepted! So don't hesitate to let us

We are having a website photo shoot (as we don't have 5D facilities for

you to smell and taste them on line) so we want to make sure they look

Our shoot is on September 2nd sooo we thought seeing as we want to

take pictures of everything over and about our menu we will have LOTS

of spare cupcakes on a Sunday afternoon... what to do with them....

having a taste off party.

Starting a 5pm and running till 7pm or whenever we run out after that,

recommended entry fee of £3, which gets you an exciting score card to

give you a voice on what makes it onto the final menu, All proceeds

raised will go to Willow Wood hospice, because they are amazing and we

will always support them in any way we can. Its going to be at

Stalybridge train station buffet bar, Stalybridge ,Rassbottom St, SK15
