Godzilla
Produced by Hanna-Barbera in association with Henry G. Saperstein, The Godzilla Power Hour was a Saturday morning cartoons staring the king of the monsters. The series follows the adventures of a team of scientists on the Calico, a hydrofoil research vessel, as they explore monstrous sitings. When in danger, the crew can use a special sonic whistle to call Godzilla to aid them. This usually occurs when the vessel is attacked by a giant monster. Once altered, Godzilla rises up from the ocean and battles the monster always emerging victorious. Godzilla's trademark atomic breath is altered so he breathes simple fire. He can also shoot laser beams from his eyes.
Godzilla’s nephew, the significantly smaller ‘Godzooky’ is additionally a passenger aboard the Calico. Godzooky is young and still learning to master his abilities. The crew tends to and cares for Godzooky which presumedly earns them Godzilla’s trust and willingness to show up when called upon.
Along with half-hour episodes of Godzilla, the Godzilla Power Hour additionally aired other animated segments, including Johnny Quest, Janna of The Jungle, the Globetrotters, Dyno-Mutt The Funky Phantom and Hong Kong Phooey. The series debuted in September of 1978 and ran for two seasons.
