VNV Nation - Beloved // Inside No 9 S03E05 Diddle Diddle Dumpling
Alright, look.
My first computer game was Rogue, played over my Mom's terminal calling into the mainframe over a modem that audibly shrieked at us.
My first console was an Atari 2600, on which my older sister consistently defeated 8 bit dragons that ate me.
My first TTRPG was an AD&D once off at a Sci Fi con - my Mom played with us. I grew up reading her 1st ed books for fun.
I still own my Original Gameboy cartridges. (I can play them on an old GBC I got off eBay, thankfully. We have ways to play all our old Zeldas, one way or another.)
I played Magic: the Gathering before it was officially released. (Alas, I did not own any cards myself until the Unlimited release at WorldCon.)
I got into immersive high fantasy boffer LARPs in high school and urban LARPing shortly after.
I played one of the earliest MMOs on the market with my boyfriend on my first desktop computer, which I built myself.
I got into strategy board games when I got together with my boardgame-collecting life partner 25 years ago, which mostly has shown me that I really love cooperative tabletop gaming.
What's my point?
I am an enthusiastic life-long 2nd gen GAMER of nearly every kind.
I was primarily raised in an all-female* household playing the "old school" games many "old school" gamers claim set the standards.
But apparently some people don't count me as a "Real Gamer" because I prefer cooperative narrative games over war games. I've been around long enough to know what I like, and aim for it. First person shooter cred doesn't impress me, and neither does a militaristic, misogynistic attitude.
There have always been women in gaming.* There always will be.
My Mom used to make her own D&D figurines from scratch.
Wanna know what game she most recently demanded I play with her?
Animal Crossing
Because her grandkids liked it.
* There have also always been non-binary folk in gaming, myself included in retrospect. Blessedly, there have also always been cis men who don't have their heads up their asses!
“purchase my st. benedict medal to protect yourself from demons. use my code BENEDICT20 to get a 20% discount. the devil haaaates this sticker i made!” what if i hit your little toe with a hammer? catholic instagram was a mistake.
Wait, did I really not post this back when I first started shipping them? (It’s killing me to see my current Christmas cucumba pop with a draft dated back in February.)
ANAKIN SKYWALKER: THE GALAXY’S WORST COWORKER.
Oh, you wish to be released from your cursed, undead, half-existence? Sorry, but Anakin Skywalker is also miserable, which means he will make sure everybody suffers with him!
can they please relax?
a continuation of Kiss Cam with Aster's friends

LOL WHEN DID I MAKE THIS AND WHY! ?!
