A few minutes passed and Sonic was becoming more awake. He opened his eyes slowly and blinked several times. He thought he saw someone in a red dress sitting next to him. It looked familiar . . .
“Amy . . . ?” Sonic murmured.
In response, Amy stroked Sonic’s hand gently, though he couldn’t see her face. “I’m here, Sonic.”
Sonic was silent as he thought for a moment. On the Death Egg, he hadn’t been able to remember his friends, but the more he thought, the more he realized with relief that that was no longer the case. He could remember Amy. He knew what her face looked like and her voice didn’t sound foreign.
“I remember you . . .” Sonic whispered. “I was scared I wouldn’t. I forgot you for a while. I’m sorry, Amy.”
Amy was silent for half a second. “It’s not your fault Sonic. Everything’s okay now.”
“I know there’s something you’re not telling me, Hedgehog,” Infinite said one day.
“I don’t know anything,” Shadow returned. “And even if I did, there’s no way I’d ever tell you.”
“I think you need some additional motivation,” Infinite mused. “What say you? Why don’t I introduce you to my favorite little pet?”
“Pet? What pet?” Rouge’s voice said in his ear. “There’s nothing like that here!”
“You’re giving me some playtime, huh?” Shadow said dryly. “Does your pet know any tricks? Fetch? Roll over?”
“I’m afraid it only knows one trick.” Infinite came closer and whispered ominously in Shadow’s ear. “Kill.”
