Old Poems VI: My Burden
So, we continue this collection of old poetry from my youth. This one, My Burden, was inspired by some lingering feelings while I was starting on the path to recovery. SO with that, please to enjoy.
MY BURDEN
Deep within my heart and soul,
I carry a secret burden.
Without it I cannot be whole,
but I fear it so.
Years ago, when I was young,
I bore a terror true.
Of tireless strength and wicked tongue,
as a shadow it grew.
It feared not retribution,
nor cared for anyone.
It had eternal constituion,
and bothered not with heart.
It showed no mercy or caring,
nor forgiveness, or campassion.
It only had a hatred most daring,
for anything in its path.
This terrible wonder inside me,
it had a common name.
“ I am Anger, I am Wrath, I am thee!”
it bellowed in my heart.
Though I keep it hidden away,
i need it to live.
It is destruction if gone astray;
but with control it is justice most fair.
It is not evil, though it is cold.,
a menace if unchecked.
Aimed true it is right and bold.
My fiercest Demon, Anger.

Skip The Anger Management Classes. Your Life May Actually Depend On It.
Most people probably think that, by not expressing anger, they’ll live longer. (Or maybe they’ll avoid a stroke.) However, you don’t avoid any terrible health consequences by avoiding getting angry. When an ex tries to burst their way dramatically back into your life, don’t break down crying again; instead, march yourself over to the gym, sign yourself up for the autumn boxing and self-defense classes you’ve been wanting to take and walk back out feeling like you’ve shaken the shit off and if any one tries to play you again, you’ll sock ‘em one. Hard.
I've had this burning in my guts now for so long. My belly's aching now to say, I'm taking pleasure in the doubts I've passed to you. So listen up as you bite this, 'You're just a fuck, I can't explain it 'cause I think you suck. I'm take in pride in telling you to fuck off and die. ' Good Night.
Billie Joe Armstrong
That anger is GOOD anger. That anger is the kind of anger that fuels the passion that can make a real difference in your life and the lives of others. I’m fucking honored to have helped you realize it.
And I’m sincerely sorry for everything you had to go through. I’ve heard a lot of stories like yours on this blog, and this post is being read by a lot of people right now who are nodding their heads and saying, “Me too.” You’re not alone.
The more people who wake up to the abuse and existential threat of fat hate and discrimination, the better chance we have at coming out of it without having sacrificed yet another generation to the altar of self-loathing and fatphobia.
