While so much online activism is about the issue of trying to prevent bad legislation from being passed, I found out about something that’s actually about trying to get something good accomplished.
Namely, an actual investigation into how FOSTA/SESTA, one of the big laws behind the net’s recent NSFW purges, has hurt people. No, that’s an understatement. They aren’t kidding when they say it has a body count.
While it may not seem like much, it could pave the way for a lot of things, including the repeal of FOSTA/SESTA, and evidence that could be used to kill similar nightmare bills like the EARN IT Act!
...Which, for the record to add that relevant subject according to the head of Fight for the Future, there’s been some progress made on it in terms of getting Senators and Representatives aware of the dangers of it, and they’re thinking about it.
But we need to still keep pushing! We cannot let this lay dormant/forget about it, because the moment we do, they’re going to try and ram it through.
