The way Castiel was completely new to interacting with humans when he met Dean. He never understood human emotions, he never understood love. So when he started to feel love for Dean, he would have been unaware of what this emotion was. He wouldn’t have understood what he was feeling and why he was feeling this way. In the first few seasons, we see cas fall for Dean before he even had/knew the words to express his feelings. Before he even properly understood them himself.

We get to see Castiel fall for Dean before Cas himself even realises that he has fallen for Dean.

Can you imagine Cas not understanding why he only felt this way about Dean? He cared about Sam, Bobby, etc, so why did he only feel this emotion about Dean? How was his love for Dean different than his love for the others?

‘He and I share a more profound bond’. We see Cas start to understand that he loves the other characters, but is IN love with Dean. We see him realise Dean will never allow himself to feel the same way.

Idk their love is just so beautiful but also so sad. Because it was just never going to end well for them
