GOOD STUFF PREMIERE : THE VACANT SMILES - You’re Not Really Here
The Vacant Smiles are a four-piece from the suburbs of Melbourne. The band has been together for roughly six years, and the sound is a mixture of raw garage and psychedelic rock, with hints of surf, influenced by Ty Segall, The Vines and the early garage rock of the ‘60s.
The band quietly released their first album ‘Stupid Music’ in 2013, and then spent the following two years working on the follow up, between playing shows in and around Melbourne. ‘You’re Not Really Here’ was produced and recorded independently, and released in January 2016 to a number of positive reviews, including Tone Deaf describing it as “hyper, manic, addictive and completely loveable.” So far, the title track has been played on Triple J, first single ‘Lemmings’ is on rotation on the Unearthed station and ‘Drenched’ was ranked at #5 in the Ripe’s Australian Chart. It's directed by Francis Tait (from the band) and Trent Cliffe, and shot and edited by Trent cliffe too.
