Reblog if you would personally like to punch the Google Memo dude
It's a low resolution thought issue. I mean, James put up his hand and said, 'wait a second, I don't agree with the diversity ideology.' And he was immediately classified as a misogynist and a bigot. And that's the simplest thing to do, right? Because misogynists and bigots will hold viewpoints that are anti-female and racist. It's a lot easier to paint someone with a broad brush - especially if they're violating the tenants of your specific temperament - than it is to dive into the details where real thought occurs. One of the sins James committed was that he dared make this about details rather than vague, hand-waving ideology.

James Damore was fired from Google over a memo criticizing the company’s diversity policies; Damore and his attorney share an update on ‘The Ingraham Angle.’

Even though Damore links to scientific papers, it is fair to say that the scientific consensus is still out as to whether men and women have biological differences when it comes to traits like status seeking, neuroticism, and a preference for empathizing over systematizing. There are plenty of social scientists who insist that any differences that might be seen in large population studies are a result of culture and upbringing and not biology at all. And literally everyone agrees, including Damore, that population differences -- even if they exist -- say nothing about an individual’s interest or abilities. -- Emily Chang from Brotopia
Chang has a surprisingly nuanced take on the infamous Google memo given that her book is an exposé on the sexism within the STEM community, and many were eager to point to Damore’s memo as a symptom of that. The reaction was overblown, and I personally think she shouldn’t have been fired simply for the memo, but I’m not a part of Google, so I can’t exactly make that judgment. I thought the memo itself was a little confusing, as he drew from several sources to make his point, though I didn’t find it as overtly sexist as rumored. The one thing that stood out to me was his use of Big Five personality traits, which are self-reporting. Women report more neuroticism (anxiety basically) than men. That doesn’t mean women are more anxious than men, and could easily be interpreted as socialization, also, as it’s more acceptable for women to admit to anxiety.
Lol so the Google Memo guy is back and I-
