The Frustrating and Amusing Google Search for a Flower Name:
Believe it or not, those are the same flowers.
The colors changed when I moved my camera closer to them in the store and I’m not sure why. I used these photos as a reference in one of my little pencil sketches for ink graphitetober (which shall henceforth be called Graphtober thanks to the MCU Bad Decisions Buddies):
and someone asked me what kind of flower it was and i blanked. I didn’t read the tag at the store but i felt like i should know.
“Mums or Carnations, I think,” I said. Then promptly googled carnations and mums.
I very easily ruled out carnations. Mums was looking iffy and then remembered i could google search WITH MY PHOTOS. I’ve never actually done that before but what the heck, let’s try it!
The results were... weird.
I tried the closeup on the left first and got
The colors are wrong but hey, some flowers can come in a variety of colors so I didn’t worry about it. I took a closer look...
that’s.... VERY OBVIOUSLY not right. Maybe the picture is too close? or because the color shifted, it’s a little confused.
So i tried again, using the second picture with the true color on it and got
I see the colors down below - those look right and I've got a name! let’s check out Lobelias!
Google. You’re drunk. Go home.
but wait, it SHOWED similar pictures that could have been SPITTING images of my own photo! how could Google have gone so WRONG?
Let’s take a closer look at those similar images and see if i can follow any of them back to a website...
Boom. Finally. A successful google search.

Why do people never believe me when i say Google just doesn’t WORK for me? This story worked out successfully, but I’ve got many others that just... don’t.
The 3 hour ordeal of searching for a particular Halloween costume necessity that i never found but my aunt found in 2 minutes comes to mind...
