oh we LOVE that!!!
I thought, with Iain on the funeral pyre in episode four. I thought I was gonna- I think that there're a few takes where I was saying something very rude 'cause I had a lot fans come up to me and say 'What are you saying to him?' And I'm like, 'I'm not gonna tell you!' I think I managed like three rude versions and then the last one was just, like, oh no, I'm just sad. I'm just genuinely really really sad. I don't have any like, comedy left in me.
Emilia Clarke, 8.06 The Iron Throne Commentary
Imagine Jon Snow pouting and sulking back to the Wall because everything has turned to shit.
"It's too bloody hot, I'm too bloody tired and you are all bloody idiots!"
"I miss wildlings, they have M A N N E R S."
"I'll rebuild the damn thing myself... AND STAY ON THE OTHER SIDE."
*dramatically flips cloak and shuffles away*
Ok, y’all, listen up... I call absolute BULLSHIT on this unscripted line. First of all, there’s already been several articles where David Nutter (who directed 8x04) said that the line Nikolaj said off-camera was “I don’t love you anymore”. Which, okay, is still heartbreaking in its own right.. BUT at least it confirms and validates the fact that JAIME WAS IN LOVE WITH BRIENNE. (Sidenote: unless you’re blind and/or didn’t watch any of seasons 2-7, you can not deny the fact that these two characters loved each other.) Second of all, regardless of what the line was, I think bringing attention to it is a really shitty thing to do. Look, the logical part of my brain recognizes that the line was just meant to elicit a specific, heightened reaction from Gwendoline Christie during her close-up. But the (largely) emotional part of my brain thinks that talking about this line just adds insult to injury to the many fans - myself included - who are already wildly upset about how these two characters’ relationship ended. All of this is to say that I believe that Jaime loved Brienne. Full stop. And he left because he thought he didn’t deserve her (plus, he was fiercely loyal to a fucking fault and went back to King’s Landing/Cersei because of that sense of loyalty). I will go to my grave believing this - no matter what the show runners say - because YOU 👏🏼 CAN’T 👏🏼 ARGUE 👏🏼 WITH 👏🏼 7 👏🏼SEASONS 👏🏼 OF 👏🏼 CHARACTER 👏🏼DEVELOPMENT👏🏼, OKAY???
I just want to say that despite the war being the main focus of the first two episodes they have made it a point to firmly establish a few things:
1. Sansa and Dany as political rivals
2. A triangle between Sansa, Jon, and Dany
3. The idea that the realm needs a marriage between Jon and a female ruler that will be just to solidify the future stability of the realm once the war is one
It’s no coincidence that the political future of the real revolves around Jon, Sansa, and Dany.
It’s also no future that Dany was what appears to be the match for Jon to the characters but they’ve gone out of their way to show the audience that the other person that’s clearly in this romantic political triangle is clearly the more superior choice
it’s also not a coincidence that the marriage the realm truly now needs has just become acceptable because of Jon’s parentage reveal,
Even if you don’t believe in Jonsa romantically. It’s VERY clear that Jon and Sansa will be matched together in the end.
While I’m an absolute Arya stan and passionate fan, I do understand Sansa and her intentions. She is always concerned about possible lack of food or resources for the folk, Sansa is clearly upset when she asked Tyrion if they can still feed the Dothraki, Unsullied and the ‘two full-grown dragons’, because she didn’t take them into account it in the first place, but did for her family and the rest of Winterfell:
She DID take into account, that Jon will return with an army, but I highly doubt she was aware of Dany’s dragons as well as the Dothraki and Unsullied. So apparently I can RELATE to her being a little pissed about the lack of food for the rest of the army as she usually always makes sure the stores are filled.
I think it’s a great responsibility to be in charge of the resources of Winterfell and Sansa has done a great job in the past if you remember the scene in season 7, episode 3, when she was told that they didn’t have enough food left, especially not if the armies of the North come back to defend Winterfell. Sansa’s exemplarily replies by saying “Then we must prepare for that eventuality”.
She even suggests to build up the grain stores by receiving regular shipments from all the keeps in the North:
Additionally, she also requests the breastplates to be covered in leather as sort of a protection method against the approaching cold (!attentive!).
I DO UNDERSTAND that they need the army and dragons that Dany provides to defend the living, so I also understand that she is super draggy-furious about Sansa’s remark. But Sansa is the Lady of Winterfell, so she apparently wants to fulfill the requirements of that position. She is merely concerned for her people and hence a little upset about the fact that they need more resources than she initially calculated? I think that’s reasonable.
And last but not least: I think this is appropriate to say:
If the leaks are true
So I will not mention which leaks but I will just say its the one that everybody hates. Then GRRM created crap on book form.
Let me say first, I don’t believe the leaks for a few reasons
1. Bittersweet ending, this is nothing of the sort and I know people claiming that the Starks being alive is the upshot. Well we already got that with the death of NK if the leaks are true that won’t matter because they will die a more miserable death than if the dead had won.
2. GRRM outline and comments regarding Jon Snow’s ultimate fate. He said from the beginning he knew what he wanted to do with Jon that had never changed now going back to the original outline I don’t remember any mention of that type of miserable end which in turn would make Jon’s existence worst than meaningless as he would be forever seen as the greatest plot device in the history of literature. Trust me its a dubious title.
3. Foreshadowing and other literary devices. Why go through the trouble of foreshadowing and hidding a lie (Jon’s parents, conflicts if the hearts, parallels) to render it meaningless at the end. A story is built on expectations and sure during the story some will be dashed and new ones propped up the organic development of characters must follow the plot. The ending depicted in the leaks is made up out of thin air, has little of growth on it and seems more like simply dashing audience expectations for the sake of dashing them.
Again, I don’t believe they are true but if they are, this guarantees I will never buy or watch anything by Martin ever again as the ending to his stories could simply be anything, so whats the point.
I know the Gendrya fandom is fucking CATATONIC right now lmao
