It was time for your annual visit with your doctor and you were on the phone with the receptionist making the appointment. Jackson was sitting in your office looking over his schedule for the next few weeks.
"Right, just need to update my last name," you conversed with the lady on the other end of the phone, "Yeah, I got married a couple of months ago." Grabbing a pencil you wrote a few notes down. "Yeah, no. Not since then." Jackson set the papers on your desk and leaned back and relaxed in his chair. "I don't know," you considered, "Maybe 6 to 8 times a week." Jackson narrowed his eyes at you, but you just waved him off. "Yeah. Ok," you spoke to the woman again. Jackson knocked on your desk and held up eight fingers to you, a big smile on his face. You rolled your eyes at him and continued your conversation. You could tell this was something he wasn't going to let go of. Jackson stood and walked around your desk and gestured to you and your wedding ring. He started humping the air and held up eight fingers again. His face filled with pure delight. "Yes, I'll see you then, thank you," you ended your call.
"Eight times a week!" Jackson practically screamed. You rolled your eyes again and pushed past him. "Come on," he cried, "Don't be like that." He followed you from the office. "Just tell me."
"I'm not discussing my sex life with you Jackson," you giggled. "No matter how astounding it is," you winked at him, stepping into the elevator. Before the doors closed you saw him pump his fist in the air and cheer Youngjae's name.
Your appointment the following week was uneventful. Same questions about your cycle and lifestyle. The nurse suggested an ultrasound to get a look at your uterus and ovaries, just a routine scan to make sure everything looked healthy since you mentioned that you were trying to get pregnant.
It only took three short months, and as your husband liked to say, a lot of practice before you got the good news.
"What," you asked surprised, "Really?" You gawked at the screen and felt the tears well up in your eyes. "Can I get a copy of that? My husband isn't going to believe this."
You strolled into the practice studio with your arms full of food for the guys. Their favorite sushi place was just around the corner, so it worked in your favor. Bumping the door open with your hip, you balanced the food and drinks in your hands.
"Come and get it, boys," you called. They surrounded you and a chorus and thank yous and appreciation filled the room. "Here baby," you said to Youngjae, "I got the last one for you. I know how much you like it." He took the container from you and kissed your cheek.
"You're the best," he kissed you again. Looking around he saw that you didn't get anything for yourself. He furrowed his brows. "Where is yours?" he inquired.
"I grabbed a burger on the way," you shrugged off his question. He chewed his lip and eyed you.
"Besides," you leaned in close to him, "The doctor said I shouldn't have any until after the baby is born." You shrugged and walked away. Glimpsing back, you could see the wheel in your husband's head turning.
"Wha-," he struggled to ask you, "Doctor said what?" Jackson's ears perked up, remembering the conversation he had with you last week and that you had an appointment today.
"Probably said you broke her, you know area," Jackson interjected and waved around his pelvis. He elbowed BamBam and laughed. "This dude is getting laid like every night! Give it a break my friend." Youngjae rubbed his neck and blushed.
"Look at her," BamBam said, "Can you blame him? If she was mine, I wouldn't leave the bedroom either."
"Shut up you two," you laughed.
"Hey," Youngjae said, "can we NOT talk about having sex with my wife?" Everyone laughed at him.
Youngjae grabbed your hand and pulled you to the opposite end of the room than the guys. He turned his back to them in hopes they wouldn't be listening. "Are you? Really?" You danced from foot to foot and squealed. Digging in your pocket you gave him the ultrasound photo. His gaze shifted between you and the photo, tears threatening to spill. Gently, he placed a hand on your stomach and kissed your lips.
"We have an audience," you said in his ear, pointing behind him. The group of men had put their food down and listened intently. "Do you want to tell them?"
"We're having a baby," Youngjae cheered. You two were surrounded by friends exchanging congratulations and hugs. Everyone was so excited the family of 8 was going to be 9 soon.
Thankfully, the whole pregnancy was easy. There was minimal morning sickness and thanks to Youngjae rubbing your belly with lotion, insignificant stretch marks too. Your husband was amazing and helpful with everything. He read books and anything on the internet to help you through everything... But nothing prepared him for the day your baby came into the world.
You woke him up in the middle of the night after you couldn't take the contractions anymore.
"Try and relax, jagi," he murmured, "the doctor said that it would still be a while after your water broke." He turned over and rubbed your belly.
"But that was an hour ago," you admitted, "my contractions are about 5 minutes apart." He was a total mess but pulled it together to drive you to the hospital. And finally, after 10 hours of labor and 6 stitches, they placed your crying baby on your chest. He was red, squishy, and covered in yuck, but he was the most beautiful thing you've ever seen.
Youngjae relaxed in your bed with you laying against his chest and the new baby suckling at your breast. As he held you close he caressed his son's head. The nurse proposed this to help with bonding. He placed a kiss against your temple and leaned his head against yours. A smile pulled at his lips when he felt you sway from side to side.
Close your eyes
Have no fear
The monster's gone
He's on the run and your daddy's here
Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful
Beautiful boy
Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful
Beautiful boy
"I love you," he whispered into your hair. He rested his chin on your shoulder and admired the sight before him. Less than 24 hours ago, this tiny baby was inside your belly and he was just Youngjae. Now here he was, cradling his wife and son.
Before you go to sleep
Say a little prayer
Every day in every way, it's getting better and better
Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful
Beautiful boy
Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful
Beautiful boy
You yawned and laid your head back to rest on Youngjae's shoulder. He must have sensed how exhausted you were. Gently, he moved from his position behind you and took the baby that had fallen asleep. He bent down and kissed your head. "Get some sleep," he assured you, "I've got him." He checked the swaddling the way the nurse taught him and sat in the chair next to your bed. Cradling the baby against his chest he began to hum the same some you were singing moments before.
The ringing of his phone caused him a slight scare. He quickly took the call from his mom. "Hi, mom," he greeted her softly, scared to wake the baby. "Yeah, he's here. 22 inches and 8.5 pounds. She's great. Yeah, sleeping now. No, we haven't picked a name yet." He carefully stood and paced the room, gently bouncing the baby. "I'll tell her when she wakes up. I love you too."
"Hi daddy," the nurse knocked gently on the door, "How is mommy?" She looked at the bed and saw you sound asleep. "She did great," she told Youngjae, "she needs to sleep. How are you?" He smiled and kissed the baby's head.
"I think I have the hang of this," he laughed. Her gaze softened as she watched him.
"Looks like you do, good job," she laughed, "But you need some rest too." She took the baby and laid him in the bassinet near your bed. Pointing to the couch near the window she placed a pillow and blanket on it. "You. There."
"Yes ma'am," he snickered. Glancing at the baby he sighed, "Can we keep him in here? I think she'll be upset if he's gone when she wakes up." The nurse nodded quickly before dimming the lights.
"Get some rest you three," she whispered.
