just a little bff jayb friend7 drabble for the people.
It's still early when you type in the code to Jaebeom's apartment and slip inside. The party is already not quite in full swing but getting started. You spot Jackson and Bam arguing over the ratio of liquor to jello for shots as you step through the kitchen. Knowing those two, you make note to avoid the jello shots at all costs later unless you don't want to remember the next three days. You wave and lean up to peck Jackson's cheek on the way by but you have other priorities tonight.
Jinyoung isn't here yet, so that means there's still time. You knock before pushing into Jaebeom's room. You swear you do. Somehow, you still manage to walk in on your best friend half naked. You both freeze, eyes widening, and you catch more than a glimpse of his sculpted six pack before regaining enough normal function to raise your hands to your eyes.
"Are you capable of remaining clothed for more than five minutes at a time, literally ever?"
You hear his scoff as he slips the shirt over his head and taps your shoulder to indicate it's safe for you to look now. "This is my room, you're the one who barged in."
You sigh and drop down onto the end of his bed. "One of these days I'm going to learn."
Jaebeom's expression says he doubts that very much. You roll your eyes and poke your tongue out at him. He returns the action. You open your mouth to finally say the thing you've been trying to find a way to word for weeks now, months even, but just then Jinyoung steps into the room and drops down onto the other side of the bed.
"Why are you two hiding away in here like a couple of shut ins? It's Beom-ah's birthday. We should be celebrating."
You shake your head and stand up, smoothing your dress. You'd chosen it specially for this occasion but neither man even seemed to have noticed. You'd deal with that later. Talk to him later once everyone was busy playing mario kart or talking and you could pull him aside for a moment. You share a look with Jaebeom and it’s a little eery how in-sync you are as you both turn to Jinyoung.
"Okay grandpa."
Your older (by not even a year) friend sighs. "Has anyone told you two that you're like creepy haunted dolls?"
You laugh then. "Not lately, but I haven't seen you in weeks, so..." You shrug.
Jinyoung shakes his head at you.
"I'd better go check on dumb and dumber before they make a mess of your kitchen."
You slip back out of the room, leaving your childhood friend and his best friend to catch up while you greet the others.
The taller man sighs but doesn’t whine at your friend the way he does with you. You narrow your eyes at him, and the traitor has the audacity to grin at you like he’s innocent. Oh, you're going to get him back. Later. When Jaebeom's palm isn't burning through the thin fabric of your sundress as his hand moves to the small of your back.
You've maybe had a few more shots than is wise. It's not hard to fall for Yugyeom and Youngjae's charms when they pout and promise just one more, or insist that it's the last one for real this time. They’re too cute to say no to until Jaebeom comes over and puts his foot down, one hand sliding around your waist to steady you while the other covers your glass before Kyeom can pour another drink into it.
You blink up at him and have to remember to pry your gaze from his lips. He really is prettier up close. And he smells like home. You lean into him as he dips his head to meet your eyes. You know he’s trying to gauge how drunk you are, looking at your pupils in the dim light of the kitchen island as the hand that had been covering your glass moves to cup your jaw so he can tilt your head for a better view.
"What am I going to do with you y/n?" He sighs as he pulls you in and rests his forehead on yours.
You flick his chest, but don't pull away. "I'm fine, Beom."
He doesn’t say anything.
You sigh. "Really. Tipsy, sure, but still within my limit. I'm not an idiot. Why are you still sober?"
He laughs, pulling back then. "Believe me, Jinyoungie's trying."
You shake your head with a smile. "Happy Birthday, Jaebeom."
You haven’t had a chance to say it yet tonight, not properly.
His gaze flicks down to your lips for just a second. "Thanks."
It’s quiet but comfortable as he steps around you to get a glass of water.
"I'll bring your present by on Sunday. I didn't want to risk it getting thrown around tonight."
He sighs, handing you a cup and leaning back against the counter. "I keep telling you that you don't have to get me anything."
"I know, I want to, though."
Jaebeom just rolls his eyes and gestures towards your glass. "Drink your water."
You smile and lean forward to clink your cup with his before taking a long sip.
"Better?"
"Mhm, thank you."
"Stop thanking me. I'm just doing the basics."
"I still appreciate it."
"Get higher standards."
"But then I'd have to find new friends."
"You really should. We're losers."
"And I love that about you."
"There’s something so wrong with you."
"I know. It's why you like me."
"Unfortunately."
