-You walk past a dark alleyway where there is a flicker of movement and the shadow of bat ears. You do not look and keep walking briskly. It is not the Batman. You do not want to know what it might be.

-There is a popular game among children. They look into a dimly lit mirror and say the Joker’s supposed real name three times. People say it’s a joke, but the older Gothamites with green tinged hair and forced smiles do not find it funny.

-Robin is a child. 10 years later, Robin is still a child. You try not to think about it.

-You pick up a stray batarang. It’s scalding, hissing with heat and you drop it. Batman is angry tonight. You should get off the streets.

-Nightwing is in Gotham tonight. You can hear his laughter from a few rooftops away. There is also screaming.

-Only in Gotham, people laugh and say. Only in Gotham. You wonder if they have ever tried to leave or if they are stuck as well.

-You run into Red Hood one night at the wrong place at the wrong time. Your phone starts to glitch and his presence chills you to the bone. You hurry home and try not to think about the living dead.

-Commissioner Gordon looks more tired these days. He issues a public warning to stay alert. It’s the third time this month.

-The drug addicts on the streets see more than you do. Their hallucinations are more real than you think and it would do well to heed their warnings.

-Who is the Batman, everyone wonders? You hear someone had come close to figuring it out. Then you never hear from them again.

-You want to leave. You want out. So why don’t you move? Yes, that’s what you’ll do and you should get on it right away. You never do.
