Gary “Mani” Mountfield, legendary bassist for The Stone Roses and Primal Scream, passed away on November 20, 2025, at the age of 63.

Mani leaves behind two 13-year-old twin sons from his marriage to Imelda Mountfield, who died in 2023.

He was preparing a talk tour about his life and career. Icons like Ian Brown (Stone Roses) and Liam Gallagher (Oasis) have already reacted with emotional tributes, calling him a "hero" and "brother."

The Stone Roses joined in 1987 and recorded the band's two iconic albums — The Stone Roses (1989) and Second Coming (1994).

Primal Scream joined in 1996 and played with them for 15 years, being a key part of the fusion of alternative rock and psychedelia.

Reunions returned to the Stone Roses in 2012 for a comeback tour, including historic shows at Wembley and Coachella.

Mani was a central figure in the Madchester scene, helping to define the British alternative sound of the 80s and 90s.

His pulsating bass gave body to the Stone Roses' hypnotic groove, influencing generations of bands.

In Primal Scream, he brought weight and depth to the psychedelic and electronic experimentation.

The Stone Roses, Primal Scream, and me would have featured the Rocks hitmaker look back on his life and career, including the Stone Roses' legendary 1990 Spike Island gig.

Mani shot to fame with the Stone Roses but they went their separate ways in 1996 and he went on to join Primal Scream.

But in 2011, he announced he had left the band to reunite with the Stone Roses for a huge stadium tour.

After the dissolution of the Stone Roses, Mani joined Primal Scream, expanding the band's sound Band:

Shoot Speed/Kill Light (2000) – frenetic bass that drives the energy of the track

30 May 1988: The day that changed Noel Gallagher's life. One day after his 21st birthday, he goes to the Anti-Clause 28 benefit concert at the International Club in Manchester, sees a guy recording a bootleg during The Stone Roses, and introduces himself to see if he can get a copy. That guy turns out to be Graham Lambert of Inspiral Carpets. This track is the beginning of the bootleg recording (is it Graham's?), and it happens to include an overheard conversation of two people meeting (is it Noel?).
