In case you missed it, here’s our Comikaze interview with Megan Madrigal AND our post-Comikaze interview, along with links on how to find Megan!
Tell us about yourself, your background as a creator, how you got started, advice for beginners.
I'm Megan Madrigal, but I also go by the name "ZombieTeddie". I started drawing in middle school, like 10 years ago?, and it just grew from there. I like making jut about anything now, with my biggest passion being drawing of course. lol I still consider myself a beginner but, as for advice, PRACTICE! Practice everything, anything...even if it looks bad keep going. Eventually you'll get the hang of it, don't beat yourself up over it.
Tell us about your current work and what inspired it?
Right now I'm working on a 12-page comic, "Alone" for the LA Women's Comic Creator League(Lady Bugs) Anthology. I had the idea for it a couple years back, one day all of a sudden, I wrote down a short concept story and completely forgot about it. Then I joined the AWESOME Lady Bugs, and while trying to come up with a story for the Anthology I remembered this one! I don't really recall what brought on the original concept :/
Do you have any side projects?
Too Many! There's like 6 other stories I have yet to draw/re-draw, and they're all either short stories or full blown stories.
Looking ahead, what are you most excited about as a creator? Be it your own projects or something within the industry.
I'm excited to work on one of my own comics! I've been world building and developing characters/storylines for YEARS and I think it's finally time I introduce it to the world.
As part of The Los Angeles Women's Comic Creators League, how has it helped you as a creator?
I've been able to get more feedback and ask them a thousand questions! It's been great, being in the group actually gave me the kick in the butt I needed to start illustrating my stories.
What are your thoughts on diversity in comics?
It's fantastic! I love that companies are realizing their comics weren't inclusive and taking the steps to change that :D
Do you have any favorite comics, creators, etc. that you're enjoying?
Off the top of my head, I love Ms. Marvel, All New Ghost Rider, and Eternal Soulfire! There's so many artists I admire: Fiona Staples, Kris Anka, Alex Konat, Makani, Cliff Chiang, & like a butt ton of other artists on DeviantArt.
What's been your worst moment as a creator?
I'm not sure I've had one.....yet.
What's been your best moment as a creator?
Meeting Kris Anka and getting one of his amazing prints! Same with Babs Tarr!
Any crazy stories or other final thoughts?
Not that I can think of, Don't usually do interviews so this was interesting!
