Everybody should check out this extremely excellent fic that my friend @ablazenqueen wrote because it is awesome and it’s set in the Star Trek universe

There’s a starship called the Set’ko with a crew of primarily Vulcan outcasts from society and one human named Marco. The Vulcans seem to think that Marco is a lot more delicate than he is, but with some of the Shenanigans that happen to and around him, they’ve maybe kinda sorta got a point?

Anyway, it’s only got a few chapters for now but it’s extremely good and everyone should read it right now and tell her that she’s very good at this whole fic-writing thing

4. What OC has a small, close group of friends?

Ben is probably most applicable here! On The Chanticleer he has Nadia, Chhavi and Rory (kinda. we meet up with them just six months after their breakup, so at the start of Storm they aren’t exactly friends yet). Plus he has his best friend from college who he keeps in steady touch with, Keiko. She’s a climatologist who I’m trying to shoehorn into book two. Somehow.

5. What OC has, like, one friend?

This answer is going to break my heart. Poa, for SURE. Commander Loei was her GUY. Like, her absolute best friend. They’re part of the same pod, so they have that immediate cultural connection, plus they’ve worked together for years – and close together. Honestly when he dies it fucks her up a LOT, and takes her a lot of time to recover. Even though she mourns his death harder than almost anyone, she’s also the one in charge after he dies, and the one everyone looks to for support. So there’s only one time she really lets herself grieve and cry (with Chhavi; it’s a really exciting and painful scene in my head), but she doesn’t feel she’s close enough to anyone to ask for help. T_T Poaaaaaa

9. What is your favorite platonic relationship between  your OCs?

Ben and Rory, hands down. I have been thinking about their friendship ALL DAY believe it or not, haha! I made this post a while back, which goes into some of my favorite things about them, but basically I just love that they function so much better as friends than they ever did as a couple. When they’re in a romantic relationship, they really hold each other back from growing as people (Ben pushes Rory into situations without thinking of Rory’s desires and best interests, even though he THINKS it’s what’s best for him. And Rory is always trying to hold Ben back from doing the things he loves. He believes it’s all with the aim of protecting Ben, but really he’s only protecting himself. They both get super resentful. It’s a whole thing).

But when they become friends – with no expectations forced on each other –  they finally have the opportunity to see the things in each other that they fell in love with, without trying to force themselves to function as a unit. They can appreciate and respect those positive qualities, even when they clash. It’s freeing for both of them, I think. And their friendship ultimately makes them much better people (and better partners. It’s no accident that they both fall for people very similar to their ex, but with differences that make ALL the difference).
